BIG EAST women’s basketball teams improved to 13-0 on the year as No. 6/6 Connecticut, No. 21/21 Creighton and Xavier scored wins on Thursday night. The Huskies cruised past Northeastern 98-39 in their season opener at Gampel Pavilion. The Bluejays and Musketeers each improved to 2-0 as Creighton won at RV/RV South Dakota 74-51 and Xavier secured its home opener 71-57 over Detroit Mercy. UConn’s Azzi Fudd was the night’s top scorer, dropping 26 points off 9-of-17 shooting.

A five-game Friday is highlighted by a pair of notable matchups in the Garden State. RV/RV Villanova (1-0) will travel to No. 24/25 Princeton, while Seton Hall (1-0) visits Rutgers. Both of those games, along with St. Francis (N.Y.) at St. John’s (1-0) and Stonehill at Providence (1-0) will tipoff at 7 p.m. ET. 6/6 Connecticut 98, Northeastern 39
Azzi Fudd scored 26 points while Aaliyah Edwards tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds as the sixth-ranked Huskies opened the season with a commanding win over visiting Northeastern on Thursday night. UConn led by 20 after the first quarter to set the tone early and limited Northeastern to just .204 shooting on the night. UConn shot .515 from the field, forced 31 turnovers and won the rebounding battle 47-30. The Huskies will face third-ranked Texas Monday night at 6:30 p.m. on FS1.

21/21 Creighton 74, RV/RV South Dakota 51
Guided by a 19-0 run over the final 7:59 of the second quarter, the 21
st-ranked Bluejays defeated South Dakota 74-51 on Thursday to open the season 2-0. Morgan Maly led all scorers with 21 points, also collecting 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Three other Bluejays finished in double figures as Molly Mogensen delivered 16 points, while Lauren Jensen and senior Carly Bachelor each finished with 12. Creighton committed just seven turnovers on the night.

Xavier 71, Detroit Mercy 57
Mackayla Scarlett matched her career high in scoring on Thursday night with 19 points, leading the Musketeers to a 71-57 win over Detroit Mercy at Cintas Center. The Musketeers (2-0) have back-to-back wins to open the season for the first time since the 2020-21 season. Xavier forced 18 turnovers, converting the miscues into 25 points. The Musketeers hit 42.4 percent of their shot attempts (28-for-66) and went 13-for-19 from the foul line. Defensively, Xavier limited the Titans to a .356 field-goal percentage.
