UConn, Xavier, DePaul Move To 2-0 With Friday Wins

MBB Minute – Connecticut, Xavier and DePaul notched Friday home wins to improve to 2-0, while Villanova lost a close decision on the road.
 
UConn scored the first 11 points of the game and enjoyed an 86-57 victory against Boston U. at Gampel Pavilion. Adama Sanogo posted game highs of 27 points and 15 rebounds. He shot 12-of-15 from the floor. Four other players reached double digits in scoring.
 
Xavier made its first 10 shots of the game en route to an 86-64 victory over Montana. Frontcourt standouts Zach Freemantle and Jack Nunge combined for 33 points while connecting on 13-of-19 from the floor. The Musketeers also shot 8-of-14 from 3-point range.
 
DePaul gained a 21-10 edge against Western Illinois and posted an 86-74 victory. Guard Umoja Gibson led the charge with 24 points, eight assists and six rebounds. He made 8-of-10 from the floor. The Blue Demons held Western Illinois to 37.7 percent shooting from the field.
 
Villanova’s short trip to Temple ended with a 68-64 defeat. The Wildcats overcame a double-digit deficit in the first half and held a 64-62 lead with 58 seconds remaining. The Owls made two free throws with 1.1 seconds left to earn a 66-64 advantage. Caleb Daniels led the Wildcats with 19 points.
 
Saturday’s slate shows four games. In an 11 a.m. ET tipoff, Georgetown hosts Green Bay. The other three contests are on FS2: Saint Peter’s at Seton Hall at noon, Lafayette at St. John’s at 6 p.m. and Northeastern at Providence at 8 p.m.
