BIG EAST Teams Enjoy 4-0 Thursday

MBB Minute – All four BIG EAST teams in action on Thursday – St. John’s, Creighton, Butler and Marquette -- won their home games by at least 20 points.
 
In the lone Gavitt Tipoff Games contest, St. John’s defeated Nebraska 70-50 at Carnesecca Arena. The Johnnies (4-0) won the game by outscoring the Cornhuskers 50-23 in the second half. Joel Soriano had 17 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. The rebound total was the most by a St. John’s player since Zendon Hamilton had 18 on Jan. 29, 1997. David Jones added 15 points and eight boards.
 
Creighton, ranked 10th in the Associated Press poll, defeated UC-Riverside 80-51. Four players scored in double figures led by Baylor Scheierman’s 17 points. Arthur Kaluma, Ryan Kalkbrenner and Trey Alexander each added 12 points. The Bluejays are 4-0.
 
Butler (2-1) used a 16-2 run late in the first half and shot 70 percent from the field for the game in a 95-67 victory over Saint Francis, Pa. Chuck Harris led the Bulldogs with 22 points and a career-high seven assists.
 
Marquette (3-1) had a comfortable 95-58 win over LIU behind a 31-point performance by Olivier-Maxence Prosper. His career-high scoring performance included 11-of-12 shooting from the field. BIG EAST assist leader Tyler Kolek had eight assists. He has had at least eight assists in all four games this season.
 
The Friday schedule shows five games, including a high-level Gavitt Games doubleheader on FS1. Xavier hosts No. 12 Indiana at 6 p.m. and Villanova visits Michigan State at 8 p.m.
 
Georgetown meets Loyola Marymount in the Jamaica Classic at 4:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. Connecticut hosts UNC-Wilmington at Gampel Pavilion at 8:30 p.m. DePaul takes on Santa Clara at 9:30 p.m. in the Baha Mar Bahamas Championship.
 
BIG EAST teams are 31-5 this season going into Friday.
