#BIGEASTwbb Minute: No. 24 Villanova, Providence Earn Road Wins

24/RV Villanova 67, Penn 41  
At The Palestra on Thursday, the 24th-ranked Wildcats tallied a 67-41 win over Penn. Villanova (3-0) led 25-18 with 5:32 to play in the first half, when the Wildcats used a 10-1 run to open-up a 35-19 advantage at the 2:40 mark. The Wildcat defense took control of the game in the third quarter holding Penn to just four third-quarter points on 1-of-17 shooting. Leading 44-29 with 7:07 remaining in the third, Villanova finished the frame on a 14-2 run to take a commanding 58-31 lead. Villanova would lead by as many as 31 in the fourth. Maddy Siegrist led the Wildcats with 22 points and 11 rebounds. She was 9-of-17 from the field and 2-of-2 from three-point range.

Providence 53, Iona 50  
Providence (3-1) survived a furious fourth-quarter comeback by the Iona Gaels on Thursday night in New Rochelle, N.Y. to earn a 53-50 victory. Janai Crooms netted a game-high 18 points and added a team-best nine boards. The Friars led by 23, 48-25, with 7:30 left in the game before Iona went on a 14-0 run to close within single digits. Iona found its outside shooting rhythm while PC struggled with turnovers, as it became a one-point game, 51-50, with 36 seconds to go. Crooms’ layup with 10 seconds left made it a three-point lead which the Friars held onto until the final buzzer.

Columbia 83, Seton Hall 76  
Azana Baines erupted for 20 points and 10 rebounds, but Seton Hall (2-2) fell to Columbia, 83-76, in Walsh Gymnasium on Thursday. The Hall fell behind early thanks to Columbia's hot shooting and struggled to catch up for most of the contest.  Each time the Pirates cut their deficit to seven or fewer, the Lions hit a run-breaking shot.  Seton Hall finally broke through late and took the lead with only 1:30 remaining, but Columbia ended the game with a 9-0 run. Sidney Cooks added 15 points and five boards.

Ball State 84, Butler 68  
Hitting the road for the first time this season, Butler (1-2) suffered an 84-68 setback at Ball State on Thursday night. The Bulldogs led 33-32 at the half but Ball State scored 52 points over the final 20 minutes to pull away. Butler shot .473 from the field and won the rebounding battle 32-30, but was hampered by 21 turnovers. Rachel McLimore had a team-high 16 points while Jessica Carrothers added 14.
