Standing Out On A Sunday
BIG EAST teams shined on Sunday, going 5-1 with wins over three teams either ranked or receiving votes in the national polls. Marquette’s hot streak in the Bahamas continued with a 70-66 win over RV/RV Gonzaga in the Battle 4 Atlantis semifinals. The Golden Eagles advance to Monday’s title game against RV/RV UCLA which is slated for noon ET on ESPN2. No. 5/3 UConn routed No. 10/7 NC State 91-69 as Azzi Fudd scored 32 points for the second straight game. No. 20/20 Creighton and No. 24/RV Villanova remained undefeated on the year, with the Bluejays winning at Northern Iowa 85-66 and the Wildcats edging Temple 74-71. Maddy Siegrist sparked Villanova with 41 points and 16 rebounds. RV/- DePaul got back on the winning track with an impressive 98-83 victory over RV/RV Miami as Aneesah Morrow and Darrione Rogers combined for 71 points.
BIG EAST Snapshot
After Sunday’s games, BIG EAST teams improved to 35-9 on the season, including 6-0 against top-25 competition. Six BIG EAST teams remain unbeaten on the year – UConn, Creighton, Marquette, St. John’s, Villanova and Xavier. Ten of 11 BIG EAST teams have a .500 or better record, and eight of 11 have a winning record.
Marquette 70, RV/RV Gonzaga 66
The fourth quarter began tied at 54-54 after a last-second full-court heave by the Zags evened things up, but the Golden Eagle defense came up big down the stretch, holding Gonzaga without a field goal for the final 7:47 of action. With 1:03 remaining in the contest and a tie game, Chloe Marotta finished a layup with a foul, then hit the free throw to give MU a three-point edge. The teams then traded free throws, followed by a 2-for-2 trip to the stripe for Gonzaga to pull within one at 67-66 with 25.7 seconds remaining. Rose Nkumu hit two free throws, followed by a Marquette stop and one more free throw by Jordan King to ice the game and give MU its fifth-straight victory. With a 5-0 start to the year, this is the team's best start to a season since 2010-11. It is the fourth 5-0 start in program history. Marotta tied for the game high with 18 points.

5/3 Connecticut 91, 10/6 NC State 69
UConn (3-0) scored the first nine points en route to a 23-13 lead after one quarter. Azzi Fudd had 11 points in the period and 22 at the half as the Huskies led 40-33. Fudd, who also had a career-high 32 in the win over No. 3 Texas on Monday night, stayed hot for the Huskies with 32 against on Sunday. And Lou Lopez Senechal got going in the second half after being scoreless in the first — she had 12 points in the third quarter to turn the game into a rout. Lopez Senechal finished with 20. Nika Muhl broke the school record with 15 assists and Aaliyah Edwards added 20 points and 12 rebounds.

20/20 Creighton 85, Northern Iowa 66
Guided by 23 points from Emma Ronsiek, 20
th-ranked Creighton won at Northern Iowa 85-66 on Sunday. The win lifted the Bluejays to 4-0 on the season. Ronsiek's 23 led all scorers, becoming Creighton's fourth different player to top 20 points this season in four contests. Lauren Jensen closed the game with 19 points, while Morgan Maly and Carly Bachelor delivered 14 and 11 points respectively. Creighton shot .478 on the afternoon and committed just nine turnovers.

24/RV Villanova 74, Temple 71
Maddy Siegrist scored 41 points and grabbed 16 points as Villanova scored a 74-71 win at Temple on Sunday to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Wildcats outscored the Owls 25-14 in the fourth to erase a one-time 12-point deficit. Villanova shot .538 in the second half and .433 on the afternoon, while Christina Dalce grabbed 12 points to help the Wildcats outrebound Temple 46-33.

RV/- DePaul 98, RV/RV Miami (Fla.) 83
Darrione Rogers and Aneesah Morrow combined for 71 points in a 98-83 victory for DePaul (2-2) over RV/RV Miami on Sunday afternoon at Wintrust Arena. The win marked 800 career victories for Head Coach Doug Bruno. Rogers netted a career-high 36 points on 12-for-14 shooting including six of seven from downtown. In all-around game the junior guard grabbed five rebounds and dished out seven assists. Morrow continued her hot streak to start the season, following up Tuesday's 42-point outing with 36 points while collecting seven boards and four steals.

Boston College 73, Providence 64
Janai Crooms scored a season-high 25 points and Olivia Olsen dropped a career-high 19 points but the shorthanded Friars (3-2), who were without starters Kylee Sheppard and Grace Efosa, suffered a nine-point setback at Boston College on Sunday. Providence shot .393 and forced 18 BC turnovers, but was outscored 22-12 in the second quarter to get into a hole they couldn’t climb out of as the Eagles countered every run by the Friars.
