Highlight Reel Of A Saturday
BIG EAST women’s basketball teams went 5-0 on Saturday in what was a day full of highlights. Three student-athletes reached the 30-point mark to lead their teams to wins, including a record-breaking performance for Aneesah Morrow of -/RV DePaul. The sophomore forward broke the Blue Demons’ single-game scoring record with a 45-point performance in the 81-63 win at Northwestern, eclipsing the 1,000-career point mark in the process. No. 25/RV Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist scored a game-high 31 points in an 82-59 win over previously unbeaten -/RV Saint Joseph’s, while Jordan King tallied a career-high 30 points for RV/RV Marquette in its 77-53 win over Loyola Chicago. Additionally, No. 18/18 Creighton edged local rival Drake 75-71 thanks to a career-high 24 points from Morgan Maly, while Providence cruised by Central Connecticut 77-45 as five Friars finished in double figures.

Five more games are on deck for Sunday, including a nationally televised battle between ranked teams. No. 6/6 UConn (7-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) travels to No. 20/21 Maryland for a 3 p.m. ET game airing on ABC. A trio of games will tipoff at 2 p.m. on FloHoops, including Navy at Georgetown (6-3, 1-1), Illinois at Butler (5-4, 0-2) and Bethune-Cookman at St. John’s. At 9-0, the Red Storm are one of just 12 remaining undefeated teams in Division I. RV/- Seton Hall will also tip at 3 p.m. on the road when the Pirates (7-3, 2-0) visit Central Florida is a game streaming on ESPN+. The Hall has won five straight for the second-longest active winning streak in the BIG EAST behind St. John’s.
-/RV DePaul 81, Northwestern 63
Aneesah Morrow scored 45 points to break the program's single-game scoring record as DePaul (7-3, 1-0) used an explosive second half to power past local foe Northwestern on Saturday afternoon. Morrow scored 18 points in the first 20 minutes and followed up with 27 on 72-percent shooting in the second half to record her second 40+ point performance this season while collecting 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double in 10 games. A free throw with five minutes remaining in the game earned Morrow her 1,000th career point in just her 43rd game. The sophomore became the 13th woman in NCAA Division I history to accomplish the career milestone in 43 games or less. DePaul’s previous single-game scoring record of 42 was set in 1991. Morrow’s 45 points tie Iowa’s Caitlin Clark for the most in a Division I game this season. Morrow is the only player with multiple 40-point games this season and currently leads the nation in scoring at 28.5 points per game.

18/18 Creighton 75, Drake 71
Morgan Maly scored a career-high 24 points, leading four Bluejays in double figures in Saturday evening’s home win over Drake. No. 18 Creighton led by as many as 17 before the Bulldogs used a hot-shooting fourth quarter to trim the lead. Creighton (8-1, 2-1) used a clutch performance from the free-throw line to clinch the win, finishing with a 15-of-17 clip, including an 8-for-8 showing by Rachael Saunders, who returned to the lineup for the first time since Nov. 10 due to injury. Saunders finished with 11 points and four assists. The Bluejays shot 40-percent from the field and drained 12 three-pointers.

25/RV Villanova 82, -/RV Saint Joseph’s 59
The Wildcats set the tone early, leading 28-8 after the first quarter as Maddy Siegrist scored nine of her game-high 31 points over the opening 10 minutes. Saint Joseph’s, which entered the game undefeated, got no closer than 14 the rest of the way. Lucy Olsen added 20 points off 8-of-10 shooting to go along with four assists and four rebounds, while Maddie Burke joined Olsen and Siegrist in double figures with 12. Villanova (9-2, 1-1) shot .547 from the field, including a blistering .708 clip in the first half.

RV/RV Marquette 77, Loyola Chicago 53
Marquette rode the hot hand of Jordan King to a victory, as the senior guard went off for a career-high 30 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the floor in the contest. Freshman Emily La Chapell had the first double-digit scoring outing of her career, finishing with 12 points to go along with a career-high tying six rebounds. The Golden Eagles (8-2, 1-1) never trailed in the contest, using a 46-point second half to pull away from the visiting Ramblers. MU shot .537 from the field and won the rebounding battle 40-24.

Providence 77, Central Connecticut 45
Janai Crooms paced five Friars in double figures, tallying 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists in just 18 minutes of action. After an early back-and-forth Providence (8-4, 0-2) used a 25-point second quarter to pull away from the visiting Blue Devils. The Friars shot .492 from the field and outrebounded CCSU by 22 (44-22). Olivia Olsen added 15 points off 7-of-12 shooting while Meghan Huerter had a career-high 11 points. PC’s 32-point margin of victory is its largest of the season and the second victory of 30-or-more points this year.
