Non-conference play wrapped up for seven more BIG EAST women’s basketball teams on Wednesday, while No. 9/9 UConn halted Seton Hall’s winning streak at seven games in the only league matchup of the day. The Huskies, who still have non-conference games against Tennessee and South Carolina remaining, won 98-73 to cool the hot Pirates. Highlighting the non-league action of the day was No. 25/RV St. John’s setting a program record for best start to a season, improving to 12-0 with its 80-51 win over Wagner, and Georgetown’s Kelsey Ransom with a Hoya record-tying 10 steals in GU’s 69-44 win over North Texas. Additionally, Maddy Siegrist, the nation’s No. 2 scorer (28.0 ppg), posted her fifth 30-point game of the season with 31 points along with 11 rebounds in RV/RV Villanova’s 81-55 victory over La Salle to clinch the Big Five title.

Dec. 28 features five league games, with four streaming on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloHoops: Butler at Xavier (1 p.m.), Georgetown at Seton Hall (4 p.m.), Providence at DePaul (7 p.m.) and Villanova at Marquette (8 p.m.). The night closes out at 8:30 p.m. on SNY when UConn visits Creighton.

Aaliyah Edwards had 23 points, leading six players who scored in double figures for ninth-ranked UConn in a 98-73 win over Seton Hall on Wednesday. Caroline Ducharme and Nika Muhl each had 16 points and were a combined 8-of-11 from 3-point range. Lou Lopez Senechal had 14 points, Aubrey Griffin added 13 points and seven rebounds, and Dorka Juhasz had 10 points and 10 rebounds for UConn (9-2, 2-0 BIG EAST). Sidney Cooks had 18 points and Lauren Park-Lane finished with 17 for Seton Hall (9-4, 2-1), which had its seven-game winning streak snapped.

25/RV St. John's 80, Wagner 51
St. John's rewrote the record books on Wednesday afternoon when it notched its best start in program history after defeating Wagner, 80-51. The squad surpassed the 2004-05 squad that held the previous record of 11-0. The Johnnies (12-0, 3-0 BIG EAST) exploded for a season-high 80 points during the record-setting day at Carnesecca Arena, shooting 50.9 percent for the game. The offense particularly prospered in the first and final quarter where it poured in 45 points and shot a stellar 69.2 from the floor in those frames, respectively. Jayla Everett scored a season-high 24 points. The redshirt senior went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.

Georgetown 69, North Texas 44
Kelsey Ransom made history tying Georgetown’s single-game record for steals with 10. With the win, the Blue & Gray improve to 8-4 overall and end nonconference play with a record of 7-2. Ransom led the way with an impressive stat line leading the team in points (20), rebounds (7), assists (5) and steals (10) en route to the record. The Hoyas shot 41.3% (26-63) from the field, while allowing 37.0% (17-46) shooting by the Mean Green. Georgetown forced 24 turnovers on 15 steals, and outrebounded the Mean Green 41-29.

RV/RV Villanova 81, La Salle 55
Villanova (10-3, 1-1) captured the Big Five title with a convincing home win over La Salle on Wednesday afternoon. Maddy Siegrist scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Wildcats, who shot .517 from the field and .500 from three. Villanova led wire-to-wire in its 14
th straight win over La Salle.

Memphis 66, Xavier 63
Xavier dropped its non-conference finale vs Memphis, 66-63, on Wednesday afternoon. The Musketeers fall to 7-5, while the Tigers improve to 8-5. The back-and-forth game featured seven ties and 10 lead changes with neither team leading by more than six points. Xavier (7-5, 0-3) led by one point (61-60) with 53 seconds left in regulation before the Tigers closed the game on a 6-2 run to escape Cintas Center with the three-point victory (66-63). Memphis was 1-for-1 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final 47 seconds of the game.

4/3 Indiana 67, Butler 50
Rachel McLimore and Sydney Jaynes combined for 24 of Butler’s 50 points as the Bulldogs (5-7, 0-3) closed out their non-conference slate with a setback at No.4 Indiana on Wednesday afternoon. It was an early back-and-forth at Assembly Hall before IU outscored Butler 20-7 in a decisive second quarter. Teams were even 30-30 in the second half as Butler shot 40 percent over the final 20 minutes, draining four three-pointers. McLimore tallied 13 points and Jaynes added 11.

Colorado 71, RV/RV Marquette 48
Marquette got off to a slow start to the contest and struggled to find offensive rhythm early, as the Golden Eagles missed their first nine shots and faced a 12-0 deficit out of the gates. While MU committed just 12 turnovers in the game, it shot a season-low 32.8 percent (20-of-61) from the field. Jordan King led Marquette (9-3, 2-1) with 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in what was its first home setback of the season.

DePaul (9-4, 2-0) cut a 20-point deficit to four midway through the fourth quarter, but the comeback bid came up just short as -/RV DePaul fell to RV/RV Louisville 81-67 in the non-conference finale at Wintrust Arena on Wednesday night. Three Blue Demons finished in double figures led by 23 points from Darrione Rogers to go along with six assists and four rebounds while Aneesah Morrow tallied 17 points and grabbed five rebounds. Anaya Peoples totaled a season-high 16 points, 12 of which came in the second half, while collecting a team-high eight boards.
