No. 3 UConn, No. 13 Creighton, No. 25 Marquette, St. John’s and Seton Hall all scored BIG EAST women’s basketball wins on Friday, in what was the conference opener for eight league teams. The Huskies, Bluejays and Red Storm all maintained their perfect records on the year with Creighton and St. John’s moving to 7-0 and UConn improving to 6-0. Creighton claimed a top-25 road win over No. 25 Villanova, 67-46, the Huskies defeated nearby foe Providence 98-53 in Storrs, Conn., and the Red Storm scored their first true road win of the year 65-57 at Butler. Additionally, Seton Hall (5-3) won its third straight game with a 74-55 victory at Xavier, while No. 24 Marquette improved to 7-1 with a 78-57 win at Georgetown.

Five more conference tilts are on the calendar for Sunday, along with a top-10 non-league showdown. No. 3/3 UConn will travel to No. 7/7 Notre Dame for a 3 p.m. ET game which is airing on ABC. In BIG EAST play, a pair of games tip at 1 p.m., including No. 24/24 Marquette at Seton Hall and No. 25/RV Villanova at Providence. At 2 p.m., -/RV DePaul opens its conference calendar at Butler and No. 13/14 Creighton travels to St. John’s. All four early conference games will stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloHoops, before the 6:30 p.m. showdown between Xavier and Georgetown airs nationally on FS1.
13/14 Creighton 67, 25/RV Villanova 46
In the first top-25 battle between BIG EAST teams this season, the Bluejays rallied from an early 10-point deficit to score its third win over a ranked opponent this year, knocking off the No. 25 Wildcats at Finneran Pavilion. Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist led all scorers with 25 points, but Creighton saw three finish in double figures, including a career-high 22 for Molly Mogensen. Villanova (6-2, 0-1 BIG EAST) led 19-9 after the first quarter but the Bluejays outscored the Wildcats 58-27 over the final three quarters to remain undefeated (7-0) on the season, including 2-0 in BIG EAST play.

3/3 UConn 98, Providence 53
Lou Lopez Senechal and Aubrey Griffin scored 18 points apiece and No. 3 UConn beat Providence 98-53 Friday night in the BIG EAST opener for both teams. Azzi Fudd scored 17 points, Aaliyah Edwards had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Nika Muhl added 12 assists — her fourth straight game with at least 10 assists — for unbeaten UConn (6-0, 1-0 BIG EAST). Grace Efosa scored 11 points and Logan Cook finished with 10 points and eight rebounds for Providence (6-3, 0-1). The Huskies led wire-to-wire after making their first five shots of the game and finishing with a .610 shooting clip to PC’s .338 mark.

24/24 Marquette 78, Georgetown 57
Jordan King scored a game-high 23 points while Chloe Marotta and Liza Karlen added double-doubles to lead the Golden Eagles over Georgetown in Washington, D.C., on Friday afternoon. Marquette (7-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) led by just eight after three quarters before a 24-point fourth saw its lead widen. Kristina Moore led the Hoyas with 19 points. MU won the rebounding battle 50-34 with Karlen and Marotta combining for 26 boards. Marquette shot .406 from the field while holding Georgetown (4-3, 0-1) to a .367 clip; the Golden Eagles forced 17 turnovers while recording an assist on 24 of 28 field goals.

Seton Hall 74, Xavier 55
Lauren Park-Lane had a game-high 24 points and Sidney Cooks notched a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds as Seton Hall won its BIG EAST opener at Xavier on Friday night. The Hall (5-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) led by just seven at the half before a 19-10 third quarter gave the Pirates a double-digit advantage they’d maintain the rest of the way. Kaysia Woods led a trio of Musketeers in double figures with 13 points. Xavier (6-2, 0-2) had assists on 16 of its 20 made field goals with Mackayla Scarlett tying Park-Lane for the game high with six dimes.

St. John's 65, Butler 57
A 13-2 fourth-quarter Butler run made it a one-point game, 56-55, with 90 seconds remaining, but Kadaja Bailey went on her own 9-2 run to lead the Red Storm (7-0, 1-0 BIG EAST) to the road win. Bailey finished with a game-high 16 points while Anna Mortag led Butler (4-3, 0-1) with 15, including a trio of three-pointers. The Bulldogs shot 5-of-9 from three in the second half to close the gap, but St. John’s shot .463 from the field on the night to edge out the win.
