McGuire, Wu and Jensen Earn All-America Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Dec. 9, 2022) — United Soccer Coaches announced the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s All-Americans on Friday, with three BIG EAST student-athletes represented on the 35 member lists.

Creighton junior forward Duncan McGuire and Georgetown senior defender Daniel Wu were both selected to the second team, while Xavier senior goalkeeper Cole Jensen earned third team honors.

The NCAA leader in goals (22) and points (46), McGuire was named a MAC Hermann Award Semifinalist and All-East Region First Team selection earlier in the week. McGuire tied the Bluejay single season record with his 22nd goal in Creighton's Elite Eight win at #4 Duke on Saturday, December 3. Named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year at the conclusion of the regular season, McGuire has played a crucial role in Creighton’s seven-match winning streak ahead of Friday night’s College Cup Semifinal tilt with No. 3 Syracuse at 6 p.m. ET. The junior has tallied nine goals and accumulated 19 points over the seven-match stretch.

Named First Team All-East Region on Wednesday, Wu joins McGuire as a second-team All-America honoree after starting in all 19 games on the back line he appeared in this past season. The senior was part of defense that posted seven shutouts in 2022, while also contributing on the offensive end of the pitch with a goal. Wu was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-BIG EAST member.

Previously named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and an All-East Region First Team member, Jensen added to his yearly accolades after being named to the All-America third team. The Council Bluffs, Iowa, native leads the BIG EAST in shutouts (8), while ranking second in goals against average (0.89). He also ranks fifth in the conference in total saves (59). Jensen ranks tied for 10th in the NCAA in shutouts and tied for 34th in goals against average. Jensen ranks tied for fourth in single-season school history in goals against average (0.89), tied for fifth in total wins (9) and third in shutouts (8).

This year’s All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
