History In Hartford
Villanova scored a 72-69 win at No. 8 Connecticut Wednesday night in Hartford, Conn., ending the Huskies’ conference game winning streak at 145 games that dated back to March 2013 and was the longest in NCAA women's basketball history. Including conference tournament games, the streak was 169 games. Four Wildcats finished in double figures and two posted double-doubles, with Maddy Siegrist going for 17 points and a game-high 12 boards. Villanova outrebounded UConn 37-21, including a 12-4 advantage on the offensive glass. The Huskies (15-5, 9-1 BIG EAST) were without leading rebounder Olivia Nelson-Ododa, who was a scratch just prior to tipoff, along with No. 4 scorer Caroline Ducharme who missed her second straight game. Freshman Azzi Fudd had a game-high 29 points to lead the shorthanded Huskies. Villanova (16-6, 10-3) has won a BIG EAST-best eight straight and are 13-1 since Siegrist returned from injury on Dec. 9 following a six-game absence.
