WBB Notes - 2.12 update
Siegrist, Villanova Remain Team To Beat
Maddy Siegrist came one point shy of the BIG EAST women’s basketball single-game record, scoring 42 points to lead Villanova past Marquette, 74-63, in overtime on Friday night at Finneran Pavilion. The win was the Wildcats’ eighth straight, the longest by any BIG EAST team this season, as Villanova has won 14 of its last 15 games all since Siegrist returned from a six-game absence. The VU win accompanied by Marquette and DePaul losses allowed the Wildcats to leapfrog the Golden Eagles and Blue Demons in the standings, jumping into second place. Siegrist’s 42 points were one shy of the conference single-game standard of 43 first set by Louisville’s Angel McCoughtry on Jan. 31, 2009, before Creighton’s Jaylyn Agnew matched that total in her BIG EAST finale against Georgetown on March 1, 2020. Siegrist had eight of Villanova’s 15 points in overtime.

Friday Around The BIG EAST

A 25-point fourth quarter sparked Providence over Butler, 64-53, with Olivia Olsen notching a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double. St. John’s earned the season sweep over Georgetown with a 79-45 win in Queens as Danielle Patterson’s 13 points led four Red Storm players in double figures. Wrapping up the night, Creighton clinched the season sweep of Xavier with a 68-47 home win in which Lauren Jensen scored all of her game-high 18 points from behind the arc.

Xavier-Providence Go All-Access
For the fifth time since 2016, a pair of BIG EAST women’s basketball coaches will don live microphones for a conference contest, giving viewers the chance to hear directly from the sidelines and locker rooms from tipoff through the final whistle with virtually no interruption. This year’s installment will feature Xavier’s Melanie Moore and Providence’s Jim Crowley, with tipoff on FS1 slated for noon ET on Sunday. Commercial-free presentations allow FOX Sports cameras and microphones to capture behind-the-scenes conversations not typically available to a television audience, including instant access to team huddles and locker rooms.
