MBB Minute – Villanova, Butler Prevail on the Road

Villanova and Butler both hit the road Tuesday night and walked away victorious in their respective contests.

Villanova (20-6, 13-3 BIG EAST) could never pull away, but the 10th-ranked Wildcats never trailed in their 89-84 victory at No. 8 Providence. The guard tandem of Collin Gillespie and Justin Moore was too much for the Friars to contain. Gillespie poured in a career-high 33 points and Moore finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Nate Watson led Providence (21-3, 11-2 BE) with 20 points followed by Jared Bynum’s 18 points. A.J. Reeves added 16 points.

Simas Lukosius banked in a 3-pointer with five seconds left to help lift visiting Butler to a 73-71 victory over DePaul. Lukosius finished with a career-high 19 points with 15 coming in the second half.  Chuck Harris added 18 points for the Bulldogs (13-13, 6-9 BE). Bryce Nze and Bo Hodges did not play for Butler Tuesday night because of injuries suffered in the Marquette game on Saturday.

David Jones led five Blue Demons (12-12, 3-11 BE) in double figures with 17 points. Javon Freeman-Liberty returned to the lineup and scored 13 points.

A trio of games are scheduled for Wednesday night, starting with St. John’s (13-11. 5-8 BE) traveling to Ohio to face Xavier (17-7, 7-6 BE) on CBSSN at 6:30 p.m. ET.

In the second game of the CBSSN doubleheader, UConn (17-7, 8-5 BE) hosts Seton Hall (15-8, 6-7 BE) at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Live on FS2 at 8 p.m., Marquette (16-9, 8-6 BE) welcomes Georgetown (6-18, 0-13 BE) to Wisconsin.
