MBB Minute – Creighton Extends Winning Streak to Four with Victory at DePaul

Ryan Hawkins put Creighton ahead with a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer and propelled the Bluejays to a 71-59 win at DePaul on Thursday. The win gave Creighton (17-8, 9-5 BIG EAST) a four-game winning streak and a tie for third place in the league standings with Connecticut.
 
The Bluejays’ three “Ryans” – Hawkins, Nembhard and Kalkbrenner – led the way. Hawkins finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Kalkbrenner had 12 points, 13 rebounds two blocked shots. Nembhard contributed 19 points and six assists. Javon Freeman-Liberty and Jalen Terry each scored 18 points for the Blue Demons (12-13, 3-12 BE). David Jones suffered an ankle injury early in the game and did not return.
 
The Friday schedule shows only one game. Butler takes on St. John’s at Carnesecca Arena at 5 p.m. ET on CBSSN. The Bulldogs (13-13, 6-9 BE) edged DePaul 73-71 on Tuesday. The Johnnies (14-11, 6-8 BE) are coming off an 86-73 win at Xavier on Wednesday. They are 4-0 this season on one day’s rest. St. John’s won the first meeting between the two teams 75-72 on Feb. 5 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.  Tonight’s contest was originally scheduled for Dec. 23.
 
Three games are set for Saturday. FOX will televise Xavier at UConn at noon ET and Georgetown at Villanova at 5 p.m. FS1 will carry DePaul at Seton Hall at 8 p.m.
