MBB Minute – St. John’s Rolls Past Butler; Three Games Set for Saturday

St. John’s grabbed control late in the first half against Butler and cruised to a 91-57 victory at Carnesecca Arena on Friday.
 
Julian Champagnie led the Johnnies (15-11, 7-8 BIG EAST) with a game-high 31 points. He shot 11-of-22 from the floor and 5-of-5 from the foul line. Posh Alexander contributed 13 points and 10 assists. St. John’s shot 61.4 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle 35-21.  The Johnnies, who beat Xavier on Wednesday, are 5-0 this season with one day’s rest.
 
Jayden Taylor was the only player to reach double figures for the Bulldogs (13-14, 6-10 BE). He had 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. Butler has a quick turnaround with a home game against Providence on Sunday afternoon.
 
Three games are set for Saturday. FOX will televise Xavier at UConn at noon ET and Georgetown at Villanova at 5 p.m. FS1 will carry DePaul at Seton Hall at 8 p.m.
 
All three games are the second meetings between the respective teams. The Musketeers defeated the Huskies 74-68 on Feb. 11. The Wildcats beat the Hoyas 85-74 on Jan. 22. The Blue Demons knocked off the Pirates 96-92 on Jan. 13.
