Tournament Seeding Scenarios
Two of the five available byes to go directly into the BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinals were clinched on Friday as No. 10/11 Connecticut and Creighton are guaranteed to finish in the top five of the BIG EAST women’s basketball standings. The bottom six teams in the conference standings will battle in the First Round on March 4, with five of those slots confirmed this week as St. John’s, Providence, Xavier, Georgetown and Butler are guaranteed to play on Day 1 of the league tournament. Three byes remain up for grabs with RV/- DePaul, RV/- Villanova, Marquette and Seton Hall still in contention. BIG EAST Tournament seeding will be determined by winning percentage in the final league standings. The 2022 BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament presented by JEEP is March 4-7 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Seton Hall stretched its winning streak to six games as The Hall outscored visiting Providence 23-13 in the fourth quarter to score a 62-52 win on Friday night. Lauren Park-Lane scored 13 of her 14 points in the game's final 7:49 and the Pirates used a 10-1 run to turn a four-point fourth quarter deficit into a five point lead. After setting the BIG EAST single-game three-pointers made record on Sunday, Creighton knocked down 20 more triples in Friday’s 107-59 win at St. John’s. The balanced Bluejay attack saw six finish in double figures, with Lauren Jensen sinking four threes en route to 16 points. Xavier was within six, 25-19, midway through the second quarter before the 10
th-ranked Huskies went on a 37-0 run to pull away. UConn welcomed back Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Caroline Ducharme back into the lineup, as the Huskies saw 10 players earn minutes on Friday in Cincinnati. Georgetown took another top team in the standings down to the wire as Marquette escaped McDonough Arena with a 64-57 win. Five Golden Eagles finished in double figures, including a game-high 14 for Karissa McLaughlin.

A five-game Sunday includes two games with massive BIG EAST Tournament seeding implications. If the season ended today, Seton Hall would be the No. 6 seed and playing in the First Round. The Pirates will look to score a quality win when they face the red-hot Creighton Bluejays at Walsh Gym at 1 p.m. ET. Additionally, RV/- Villanova hosts RV/- DePaul in a battle of third- and fourth-place squads. Those two games, along with Providence at St. John’s (1 p.m.) and Xavier at Butler (7 p.m.) will stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi available on FloSports. Airing on SNY at 2 p.m., No. 10/11 UConn hosts Georgetown in Hartford.
