HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Connecticut clinched the 2021-22 BIG EAST women’s basketball regular-season title for the 21
st time on Wednesday night with a 69-38 win over Marquette at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. The Huskies also locked up the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament presented by JEEP, set for March 4-7 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
UConn is the lone team to clinch its seed heading into the final weekend of the regular season, with the remaining 10 seeds to be set between Friday and Tuesday.
The Huskies will face the winner of the No. 8 seed versus No. 9 seed in the first Quarterfinal game on March 5, set for a noon ET tipoff on FS1. UConn still has two regular-season games remaining, as it hosts St. John’s on Friday at 7 p.m. (SNY) and Providence on Sunday at 2 p.m. (CBS Sports Network). The Huskies can finish no worse than 14-3 (.823) in BIG EAST play, with no other team able to finish better than 16-4 (.800).
