Naismith Trophy Midseason Team
Connecticut’s Christyn Williams and DePaul’s Aneesah Morrow were part of the 30-member Naismith Trophy Midseason Team announced on Tuesday. This season, Williams is averaging 14.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. She is shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 32.3 from three-point range. Williams, Morris Named Drysdale Award Finalists
Two of the 10 finalists for the award recognizing the top shooting guard in the country hail from the BIG EAST as Connecticut’s Christyn Williams and DePaul’s Sonya Morris were recognized on Tuesday. The Basketball Hall of Fame announced the finalists for the Ann Meyers Drysdale award, after a watch list of 20 candidates from November was narrowed to 10 by a national committee of top college basketball personnel. Morris is second on the Blue Demons and third in the BIG EAST with a 17.9 scoring average, while also ranking in the top 10 in the conference in steals and assists. Williams was named to the Naismith Trophy Midseason Team earlier on Tuesday, and is averaging 14.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Fudd Adds National Merit
A day after being named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, Connecticut’s Azzi Fudd earned the national weekly recognition by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. The rookie guard becomes the third BIG EAST player recognized by the USBWA this season after Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist claimed Player of the Week honors on Dec. 12, while DePaul’s Aneesah Morrow is a two-time Freshman of the Week (Dec. 12, Jan. 30). Fudd scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Huskies past then-No. 7 Tennessee, 75-56, on Sunday afternoon. The nation’s top-ranked recruit was playing in just her eighth game this season and was making her first start.
