Strong Performances in Conference Openers Highlight #BIGEASTvb Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Yadhira Anchante, Marquette, So., S
In a 2-0 week for the Golden Eagles, Anchante led the BIG EAST in hitting at .542 and listed third in assists with 11.57 per set. She had two of the top assist performances of the week, including 35 in a three-set win over DePaul on Wednesday, followed by 46 in a four-set victory over Butler. Against the Bulldogs, Anchante notched her first career triple-double, totaling 10 kills, 46 assists and 13 digs. Sparked by Anchante, Marquette led the BIG EAST in hitting last week with a .360 clip, while also tallying a league-best 15.00 assists and 16.14 kills per set.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Rachele Rastelli, St. John’s, Grad., RS
In a 2-0 week for the Red Storm, Rastelli finished in the top five in the BIG EAST in a trio of statistical categories, including No. 1 in points (4.75), No. three in kills (3.88) and No. 5 in blocks (1.25). She posted the third-most blocks in a match last week with six in Saturday’s win over UConn, while her 26.0 points and 22 kills against the Huskies were single-match highs in the league last week. Rastelli added double-digit digs (11) on Saturday night as well.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Ava Martin, Creighton, Fr., OH
In her first week of BIG EAST play, Martin led the league in kills (4.20), while listing sixth in both hitting (.441) and points (4.30). She was one of just two BIG EAST student-athletes to average at least 4.00 kills per set last week, tallying 10 against Georgetown on Friday and 11 against Villanova on Sunday as Creighton swept both opponents.

Amina Shackelford, Butler, So., MB – in a 1-1 week, finished No. 2 in the BIG EAST in kills (4.00) and No. 4 in points (4.44); BIG EAST single-match high last week of 22 kills in Friday’s win at DePaul
Allison Whitten, Creighton, Sr., L – led Creighton to a league-best .075 opponent hitting percentage in wins over Georgetown and Villanova; No. 4 in digs per set last week (4.67) highlighted by a 19-dig showing on Friday
Giorgia Walther, St. John’s, So., OH – in a 2-0 week, finished No. 2 in the BIG EAST in points (.4.56) and aces (0.75) while listing eighth (3.50) in kills; double-digit kills in both wins, including 13 against Providence and 15 against UConn; six aces against the Huskies are a single-match high in the conference this season
Bianca Bucciarelli, Seton Hall, Jr., OH – in a pair of five-set victories, led the Pirates in kills (3.10) and digs (3.10); 18 kills, 13 digs, three blocks in Friday’s win over UConn, followed by 13 kills, 18 digs in Saturday’s victory over Providence
Brooklyn Cink, Xavier, Sr., OH – in a 2-0 week, finished in the top 10 in the league in aces (0.67), digs (3.67) and points (4.08); double-double (11 kills, 13 digs) and three aces in Sunday’s win over Georgetown
