NEW YORK – (September 9, 2022) The 2022-23 BIG EAST Conference men’s basketball schedule was released today, a 110-game double round-robin slate for a third straight year. The BIG EAST will enjoy a 10
th straight year of comprehensive coverage by FOX Sports, the league’s television partner. Through its relationship with FOX, the BIG EAST is a national college sports leader in the number of basketball games appearing on an over-the-air national network.
The exposure on the FOX broadcast network includes 20 games, all on weekends. The league’s continuing double round-robin competition concludes with FOX Sports’ complete coverage of the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament played at Madison Square Garden March 8-11 for the 41
st consecutive year at the World’s Most Famous Arena.
The BIG EAST will have at least 23 over-the-air network broadcasts -- 20 on FOX for the regular season and the BIG EAST Tournament title game, and three on CBS Sports.
The number of FS1 telecasts again will top 100. All 110 regular-season conference games will be televised. Play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson along with analysts Bill Raftery and Jim Jackson are back to form the FOX Sports lead announce teams.
FOX Sports will provide live look-in coverage on Nov. 7, the opening night of the college basketball season. The
BIG EAST Opening Night Tip-Off will include live look-ins on FS1 of eight non-conference contests. Full game coverage will be available on the Fox Sports App. The look-in format on the first night of the season began last year.
CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network will televise a total of 22 games. CBS has three telecasts, two league and one non-league. Villanova hosts Oklahoma on Dec. 3, Xavier plays at Creighton on Jan. 28 and Connecticut meets St. John’s in Madison Square Garden on Feb. 25. Nineteen games will be carried on CBS Sports Network, including 16 conference contests.
The 110-game BIG EAST conference schedule begins Wednesday, Dec. 7, with DePaul traveling to play St. John’s at Carnesecca Arena on FS1.
The December league schedule is highlighted by DePaul playing Creighton on Christmas Day on FOX at 4:30 p.m. ET. It will be the first time in league history that the BIG EAST will play a conference game on Christmas.
Georgetown will play at Villanova on Jan. 16 at noon on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The BIG EAST is coming off a season that had six teams reach the NCAA Tournament with Villanova reaching the Final Four and Providence making the Sweet 16. For the eight years of NCAA Tournament play for the league since it re-formed in 2013, the BIG EAST has earned 42 NCAA invitations, averaging more than five NCAA bids per season.
FOX and FS1 again serve as the television home of the BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden. The 2023 tourney will be played March 8-11. It is college basketball’s longest running conference tournament held at the same venue. The FOX broadcast network will carry the championship game at 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 11. All other rounds, which total 10 games, will be telecast on FS1. The time of the first-round tripleheader on March 8 has been moved up to 3 p.m.
FOX Sports will once again televise the Gavitt Tipoff Games. The BIG EAST’s four home games include Northwestern at Georgetown on Nov. 15, Iowa at Seton Hall on Nov. 16, Nebraska at St. John’s on Nov. 17 and Indiana at Xavier on Nov. 18. FS1 will telecast all four games.
FOX Sports and CBS will telecast the five BIG EAST home contests in the annual BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle. The schedule: Baylor at Marquette on Nov. 29, Kansas State at Butler on Nov. 30, Oklahoma State at Connecticut on Dec. 1, Oklahoma at Villanova and West Virginia at Xavier on Dec. 3. The Villanova-Oklahoma game is slated for CBS. The other four contests will be on FS1.
Highlights of the 2022-23 schedule:
- BIG EAST coverage on the FOX broadcast network includes 17 regular-season games in addition to two Wildcard selections on March 4 and the BIG EAST Tournament title game. FOX will carry four doubleheaders, ending with a Wildcard twinbill on March 4, the final day of the regular season.
- The regular season concludes on Saturday, March 4, with a FOX Wildcard day.FOX or FS1 will carry all five games, including UConn at Villanova on FOX at 7:30 p.m.
- CBS will telecast two BIG EAST league contests: Xavier at Creighton on Jan. 28 at 12:15 p.m. and UConn at St. John’s on Feb. 25 at noon. One non-conference CBS matchup is Oklahoma at Villanova on Dec. 3 at 12:30 p.m.
- CBS Sports Network has another strong lineup of BIG EAST contests, including 16 conference games and three non-conference contests.The first league game is Marquette at Providence on Dec. 20.
- For the eighth straight year, the BIG EAST Tournament championship game will be carried on FOX.Tipoff will be 6:30 p.m. ET.The FS1 tourney coverage will begin with a first-round tripleheader on Wednesday, March 8, at 3 p.m.Quarterfinal doubleheaders will be played Thursday afternoon and evening, March 9.The semifinal doubleheader will be held Friday, March 10, followed by the title game on Saturday evening, March 11.
- FOX will telecast games on Christmas and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. On Christmas, DePaul plays at Creighton at 4:30 p.m. On MLK Day, Georgetown visits Villanova Jan. 16 at noon.
- Two games will air in primetime on FOX, Villanova at Creighton on Feb. 4, and Connecticut at Villanova, March 4. Both are Saturday night tips at 7:30 p.m.
BIG EAST basketball during the 2022-23 season will also be covered on the BIG EAST Digital Network. Shootaround, the BIG EAST’s live weekly men’s basketball online show that captures interviews and highlights of league action, will begin its sixth season in 2022-23.
