MBB Minute – In the lone contest on Friday, Butler outscored Villanova 19-9 in the final six minutes to secure a 79-71 victory at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs (11-8, 3-5 BIG EAST) got a career-high 28 points from Simas Lukosius on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor. Five of his nine field goals were 3-pointers. Butler shot 57 percent from the field. The Bulldogs played without Manny Bates who was sidelined with a knee injury.
The Wildcats (8-10, 2-5) had recovered from a 40-30 halftime deficit with an early 16-1 spurt to take the lead, but they could not hold on. Eric Dixon scored a team-high 20 points and Caleb Daniels added 21.
The Saturday schedule shows only two games, both on FS1. DePaul hosts Seton Hall at noon ET. The Blue Demons (8-9, 2-4) are coming off a Wednesday win against Villanova. The Hall (10-8, 3-4) has won its last two.
Providence puts its nine-game winning streak on the line at Creighton at 2 p.m. The No. 19 Friars (14-3, 6-0) are riding their longest winning streak since 1988-89. The Bluejays (9-8, 3-3) are 7-1 at the CHI Health Center. They will be playing their seventh ranked opponent of the season, but the first at home.
