NEW YORK – Xavier guard Souley Boum has been tabbed BIG EAST Player of the Week and St. John’s guard AJ Storr has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Boum led the Musketeers to wins against Creighton and Marquette, while Storr helped the Johnnies to victories against Butler and at Connecticut.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Souley Boum, Xavier, G, Gr. – Boum was the critical force behind Xavier’s two victories. In an 80-76 win against No. 25 Marquette, Boum scored nine of Xavier’s final 12 points. The point guard netted 17 of his game-high 26 points in the second half of a 90-87 victory against Creighton. For the two games, he averaged 21.0 points, 6.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds. Boum leads the BIG EAST in overall scoring with a 17.6 mark.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
AJ Storr, St. John’s, G, Fr. – Storr helped St. John’s to a 2-0 week by averaging 13.0 points and shooting 56.3 percent from the field. The guard scored 14 points, making 5-of-9 from the floor, and grabbed four rebounds in an 85-74 win at No. 6 Connecticut. In a 77-61 victory over Butler, Storr netted 12 points.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Baylor Scheierman, Creighton, G, Sr. – Averaged 22.0 points, 5.5 boards and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 week against ranked teams. Had 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists against Providence (73-67).
Simas Lukosius, Butler, G-F, So. – Scored a career-high 28 points in a win against Villanova (79-71) and averaged 21.5 points in a 1-1 week. Shot 14-of-20 from the field for both games.
Tyler Kolek, Marquette, G, Sr. – Averaged 15.5 points and 7.5 assists in a 1-1 week. Had game highs of 25 points and seven assists in a loss at Xavier (80-76).
Joel Soriano, St. John’s, C, Sr. – Averaged 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds while making 17-of-23 from the field in wins against Butler (77-61) and at UConn (85-74).
Al-Amir Dawes, Seton Hall, G, Sr., – In a 2-0 week, averaged 19.5 points and had only three turnovers in wins at Georgetown (66-51) and at DePaul (71-67). Had a career-high 24 points vs. the Hoyas.
