MBB Minute – In the only game on Tuesday’s schedule, Creighton visits Butler at 7 p.m. on FS1. The Bluejays (10-8, 4-3 BIG EAST) have won four of their last six, including Saturday’s 73-67 decision against Providence. The Bulldogs (11-8, 3-5) also won on Saturday, knocking off Villanova 79-71. Butler has won seven of the last eight meetings at Hinkle. Creighton took the first matchup this season, winning 78-56 on Dec. 22 in Omaha.
For the second consecutive week, four BIG EAST teams are ranked among the nation’s top 25, as announced in Monday’s Associated Press and USA Today Polls.
Making a four-position jump, Xavier (15-3, 7-0) ranks eighth in the AP poll, while Marquette (14-5, 6-2) jumped five spots to No. 20. The top-10 ranking for the Musketeers is the highest since closing out the 2017-18 campaign ranked No. 3 in the AP and No. 8 in the USA Today.
Providence (14-4, 6-1) enters the week ranked No. 22, while Connecticut (15-4, 4-4) sits at No. 15. The latest rankings set up another top-25 showdown in conference action, with Marquette hosting Providence Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on CBSSN.
In the only game on MLK Day, Villanova clipped Georgetown 77-73 at the Finneran Pavilion. Both teams took turns holding the lead in the second half. Villanova’s Eric Dixon broke a 71-71 tie with a traditional three-point play with 1:01 left to help secure the Wildcat win. Caleb Daniels led a balanced scoring effort for the Wildcats (9-10, 3-5) with 16 points. Primo Spears scored a team-high 19 points and Jordan Riley added a career-high 18 for the Hoyas (5-14, 0-8).
