BIG EAST women’s basketball scored its first top-25 win of the season as -/RV Marquette knocked off No. 23/RV Illinois 71-67 on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee. The Golden Eagles (2-0) took the lead with 7:42 left in the second quarter and held it the rest of the way, leading by as many as 11. On Saturday evening, Xavier (0-2) dropped its home opener to James Madison, 81-54. The Dukes used a high-scoring second half to pull away in Cincinnati.

Liza Karlen led four Golden Eagles in double figures against No. 23 Illinois, scoring a game-high 22 points off 11-of-16 shooting. Jordan King added 19 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists in the winning effort. Xavier’s Kaysia Woods scored a career-high 17 points on 6-for-14 shooting against James Madison. She made a career-high five 3-pointers and added a team-best four assists.
