Creighton, DePaul, Xavier Earn Penultimate #BIGEASTvb Weekly Awards

Offensive Player of the Week
Jill Pressly, DePaul, Sr., OH
Pressly led the BIG EAST this week in both points (5.75/set) and kills (4.88/set) as DePaul enjoyed an undefeated weekend, besting both Villanova and Georgetown, 3-1. The outside hitter recorded match-high marks in both contests with 20 kills at Villanova and 19 tallies at Georgetown. Across the pair of matches, Pressly also averaged 0.75 service aces per set, good for third in the BIG EAST.

At Villanova, Pressly registered her 14th double-double of the year with 17 digs in addition to her 20 kills. She also added a trio of service aces for a match-best 23 points. Against Georgetown, the senior once again contributed a match-best 23 points with 19 kills, three service aces and a solo block. Heading into the final week of the regular season, Pressly leads the league in both kills (277, 4.69/set) and points (309, 5.24/set) in conference matches. Across the NCAA, the senior ranks 12th in kills per set (4.47) and 19th in points per set (4.96) over all matches played.

Defensive Player of the Week
Stevie Wolf, Xavier, Sr., L
Wolf led the BIG EAST this week with 6.43 digs per set, anchoring a Musketeer defense that gave up just one set. Xavier opened the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Providence. During the contest, Wolf contributed a match-best 23 digs while producing a trio of assists. In a 3-1 victory over UConn, the senior again led the match with 22 digs in addition to six assists.

The pair of victories secured Xavier’s spot in the upcoming BIG EAST Volleyball Championship.

Freshman of the Week
Sydney Breissinger, Creighton, Fr., L
Breissinger continued to prove her defensive prowess, playing as #15 Creighton’s primary libero in a pair of victories this weekend. She averaged a team-leading 4.14 digs per set in Bluejay wins over Seton Hall (3-0) and St. John’s (3-1), good for sixth in the BIG EAST this week.

Against the Pirates, Breissinger registered a match-best 16 digs while adding a pair of assists and an ace. At St. John’s, the rookie recorded a team-best 13 digs in addition to three aces. On the week, Breissinger’s 0.57 aces per set rank fourth in the BIG EAST. On the year, her 25 total aces lead # 15 Creighton.

Honor Roll
Jaymeson Kinley, Butler, R.S. Sr., L
In her final collegiate matches inside Hinkle Fieldhouse, the reigning two-time BIG EAST Libero of the Year led Butler to a 2-0 record with 40 digs.  In Friday’s sweep of UConn, Kinley collected 21 digs alongside six assists. She followed this performance with a match-best 19 digs and six assists in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Providence. Her 5.71 digs per set rank second in the conference this week.

Cora Taylor, Butler, So., S
Taylor set Butler to its best offensive performance of the season with 78 assists as the Bulldogs hit a combined .361 over the weekend. In Friday’s victory over UConn (3-0), Butler hit a season-best .344. The Bulldogs went on to top this achievement on Sunday, hitting .377 against Providence (W, 3-1). Against the Friars, Taylor registered 44 assists and 10 digs for her sixth double-double in eight matches. On the week, the sophomore’s 11.14 assists per set rank second in the BIG EAST.

Kendra Wait, Creighton, Jr., S
Wait led the BIG EAST this week with 12.43 assists per set as Creighton collected a pair of victories on the road. An all-around threat, Wait also averaged 1.86 digs, 1.43 kills, and 0.71 blocks per set on .556 hitting.. The junior put forth match-best efforts against both Seton Hall and St. John’s with 46 and 41 assists, respectively.

Jenna Reitsma, Marquette, Jr., OH
Reitsma was a crucial cog in Marquette’s offensive machine this week, averaging 3.86 kills and 5.64 points per set on .407 hitting. Across the Golden Eagles pair of victories, the junior averaged a BIG EAST best 1.43 service aces per set. In Friday’s 3-0 victory over Georgetown, Reitsma registered a career-best seven service aces in addition to nine kills. On Saturday, she produced a match-best 18 kills in addition to 11 digs, three service aces, and two blocks in a 3-1 defeat of Villanova.

Carrigan O’Reilly, Xavier, Gr., S/RS
O’Reilly was a dual threat during Xavier’s two-win week, totaling 74 assists, 15 digs, 10 kills, five blocks, and a pair of service aces. During Saturday’s sweep of UConn, O’Reilly produced a match-best 29 assists with six kills, three digs, two service aces, and a block. On Sunday, the graduate student registered a double-double with match-high 45 assists and 12 digs in addition to four kills and four blocks. Her 10.57 assists per set ranked third in the BIG EAST this week.
