BIG EAST women’s basketball teams began the weekend with a 2-2 mark, with Georgetown topping FDU 60-45 on Friday night and Butler knocking off Austin Peay 53-47 on Saturday to highlight the action. On Saturday, Xavier fell short against Bowling Green 73-64, while DePaul dropped its first game at the Battle 4 Atlantis to South Dakota, 83-71. Xavier’s Mackayla Scarlett led all BIG EAST scorers since Friday, tallying a career-high 25 points in Saturday’s setback to Bowling Green. She was 9-of-16 shooting, including a 4-of-7 clip from three. DePaul’s Anaya Peoples posted her BIG EAST-best third 20-point game of the season with a team-high 22 against South Dakota. Butler’s Caroline Strande also had a career-highlighting game, dropping 21 points to lead the Bulldogs past Austin Peay. Butler limited the Govs to just five third-quarter points to pull away. Kelsey Ransom led Georgetown in scoring for the fourth straight game and led in rebounding for the third straight, tallying 12 points and seven boards in just 26 minutes of action. Ransom added six assists and four steals to fill the stat sheet.
