MBB Minute – St. John’s and Georgetown registered homecourt victories, while DePaul came up short on a three-game Saturday for BIG EAST teams.
St. John’s rolled past Holy Cross 91-45 at Carnesecca Arena. The Johnnies (4-2) amassed a 44-28 lead by intermission and were not threatened in the second half. Joel Soriano posted game highs of 16 points and six rebounds while connecting on 8-of-9 from the floor. All 13 Red Storm players who saw action got into the scorebook.
Georgetown held off Jackson State 88-81 behind a 34-point effort by Jayden Epps. His point total was his second straight career scoring high. He made 7-of-9 from beyond the arc. Dontrez Styles helped the Hoyas (4-2) with 22 points on 9-of-13 from the field.
DePaul lost 89-79 to Northern Illinois at Wintrust Arena. Da’Sean Nelson led the Blue Demons (1-5) with 23 points. Elijah Fisher added 16 points. DePaul committed a season-low eight turnovers.
Butler is the only league team in action on Sunday. The Bulldogs (4-2) meet Boise State in the fifth-place game in the ESPN Events International. Butler is coming off a Friday win over Penn State (88-78) after a loss to Florida Atlantic (91-86). The Bulldogs shot exactly 50 percent from the floor in each of those games.
