#BIGEASTwbb Minute: Marquette Wins Fort Myers Tip-Off To Stay Undefeated

BIG EAST women’s basketball teams combined for a 3-1 record on Saturday highlighted by RV/RV Marquette winning the Fort Myers Tip-Off following a 74-58 victory over Arkansas. The unbeaten Golden Eagles (6-0) have won their six games by an average of nearly 28 points per contest. No. 6/7 UConn (4-2) closed out play at the Cayman Islands Classic with a 71-63 win over Kansas, while Butler (4-2) wrapped up action at the Tiger Turkey Tip-Off in Stockton, Calif., with a 76-54 victory over St. Thomas (Minn.). St. John’s (2-5) suffered a 60-56 setback to Jackson State in its final game at the Puerto Rico Classic.

Nightly Notables
Marquette’s Rose Nkumu was named the Fort Myers Tip-Off most valuable player after her 14 points, seven assists and three steals in the title game win over Arkansas, while Frannie Hottinger had the lone double-double of the night with 12 points and 12 boards against the Razorbacks. UConn’s Paige Bueckers tallied a game-high 22 points in the win over Kansas – one of two Huskies to reach the 20-point mark along with Aubrey Griffin (20). Liza Karlen had 20 for the Golden Eagles, while Jordan Meulemans scored a nightly and career-high 24 to lead Butler past St. Thomas. Meulemans drained eight triples, matching the single-game high in the BIG EAST this season, while the Bulldogs made 16 as a team, the most by a conference team this year. Unique Drake, who ranks fifth in the league in scoring, led St. John’s with 17 points against Jackson State.
