UConn Sets NCAA ‘Double-Digit’ Win Record

MBB Minute – Connecticut set an NCAA record Tuesday by winning its 24th straight game against non-conference competition by double digits, defeating New Hampshire 84-64 at Gampel Pavilion. The fourth-ranked Huskies (7-0) led by as many as 29 points in the second half.

Donovan Clingan made 12-of-13 from the field and finished with 29 points. Tristen Newton and Cam Spencer each scored 17 points. Newton flirted with another triple-double by adding 10 rebounds and seven assists. UConn plays at No. 5 Kansas Friday in the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle.

Xavier led Oakland 69-66 with less than three minutes to play, but the Musketeers could not hang on to the lead and lost 78-76. Oakland used a late 11-2 run to grab the victory. Xavier (4-3) was led by Desmond Claude’s 24 points. Xavier hosts No. 6 Houston Friday in the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle.

Tuesday’s schedule includes two games, both to be televised by FS1. Providence hosts Wagner at 7 p.m. ET. The Friars (5-1) have won their last 23 in a row at home against non-league competition.

At 9 p.m., third-ranked Marquette hosts Southern. The Golden Eagles (5-1) have their highest AP ranking since the 1977-78 season. Marquette will be playing its first game since its runner-up finish at the Maui Invitational.

The overall record of BIG EAST teams going into Tuesday is 50-20 (.714).
