Marquette, Providence Roll To Tuesday Wins

MBB Minute – The two BIG EAST teams in action on Tuesday – Marquette and Providence -- both enjoyed comfortable victories.
 
Marquette, which moved up to No. 3 in this week’s AP poll, dominated Southern 93-56 at Fiserv Forum. Tyler Kolek led the Golden Eagles (6-1) with 16 points, while going over the 1,000-point plateau for his career. Four other MU players reached double figures. The No. 3 ranking is Marquette’s highest since the 1977-78 season.
 
Providence used a 13-1 run late in the first half in an 86-52 handling of Wagner. Guard Ticket Gaines scored a team-high 21 points, all on 3-point baskets. Bryce Hopkins added 20 points and six rebounds. The Friars (6-1) held the Seahawks to 27.7 shooting from the field.
 
Both Marquette and Providence have in-state rivalry games on Saturday. The Golden Eagles play at Wisconsin at 12:30 p.m. ET on FOX. The Friars host Rhode Island at 7:30 p.m. on FS1.
 
The BIG EAST schedule for Wednesday shows three contests. FS1 has a doubleheader with Villanova hosting Saint Joseph’s at 6:30 p.m., followed by Merrimack at Georgetown at 8:30 p.m. Seton Hall hosts Northeastern at 6:30 p.m. on FS2.
