BIG EAST women’s basketball teams went 2-0 on Tuesday night, including a debut victory for Providence first-year head coach Erin Batth. The Friars never trailed in their 76-46 home win over Hampton, opening the game on a 9-0 run to set the tone early. Batth took over the Providence program in March, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Michigan following successful stints at NC State and Liberty. Seton Hall also impressed in its season opener, toppling Iona 75-32 in South Orange. The Pirates held the Gaels to just six points in the first and third quarters to build an insurmountable lead.

Tuesday Standouts
Providence saw two eclipse the 20-point mark in Tuesday’s opener, with Olivia Olsen scoring a career-high 25 points off 9-of-11 shooting. Fellow Friar Grace Efosa scored 21 points for the second 20-plus point performance of her career. Seton Hall posted the top defensive performance in the BIG EAST so far this season, holding Iona to just 32 points and .279 shooting – the lowest marks by a BIG EAST foe so far. Eleven different Pirates scored at least two points, with Micah Gray going for a game-best 11 points.

Two more season openers are set for Wednesday night, which includes a long-anticipated return and another BIG EAST head coaching debut. No. 2/2 UConn will host Dayton at 7 p.m. ET on SNY, marking the first official game action for BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year Paige Bueckers since the 2022 national title game. Bueckers missed all of 2022-23 recovering from injury. Games airing on SNY can be streamed out of market in the FOX Sports app and on FOXSports.com. At 6:30 p.m., Xavier begins the Billi Chambers era when the Musketeers travel to Youngstown State. Chambers took over in Cincinnati following 10 years as the Iona head coach, with the Gaels coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023.
