BIG EAST Teams Post 7-2 Saturday

MBB Minute – On a Saturday that included some long-standing rivalry games, BIG EAST teams won seven of nine contests.
 
Butler improved to 8-2 with a double-overtime win against California in Hinkle Fieldhouse. Posh Alexander had 21 points and six assists. The Bulldogs sealed the win with a 9-2 start in the second extra period.
 
DePaul (2-7) closed its first half against visiting Louisville with an 18-2 run and went on to win 75-68. Jeremiah Oden shot 8-of-10 from the field, 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and finished with a game-high 22 points.
 
Xavier snapped a three-game losing streak and won its fifth straight Crosstown Shootout with an 84-79 victory over Cincinnati. Quincy Olivari scored a game-high 27 points for the Musketeers (5-5) who made 22-of-26 from the foul line.
 
Villanova (7-4) closed its game against UCLA with a 24-11 run in a 65-56 victory. Tyler Burton posted 18 points and 10 rebounds.
 
No. 5 Connecticut (9-1) started slowly against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, but turned it on in the second half to record a 101-63 victory. Alex Karaban made 6-of-9 from 3-point range en route to a career-high 28 points.
 
No. 8 Marquette (8-2) held visiting Notre Dame scoreless for the first seven minutes in a 78-59 victory. Oso Ighodaro netted a game-high 20 points. Tyler Kolek added 17 points and seven assists.
 
No. 10 Creighton also hit the century mark, beating Central Michigan 109-64. The Bluejays (8-1) got career scoring highs from Isaac Traudt (18 points) and Mason Miller (17). Creighton opened the first half with a 14-4 run and led 56-36 at halftime.
 
Syracuse pulled away in the final minutes of its 80-68 victory at Georgetown. Supreme Cook posted his third double-double of the season for the Hoyas (5-4) with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jayden Epps added 17 points and six assists.
 
Seton Hall rallied late, but lost 70-63 to Rutgers in the Garden State Hardwood Classic. Kadary Richmond led the Pirates (5-4) with 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
 
Providence and St. John’s play Sunday. The Friars (7-2) host local foe Brown at noon ET on CBSSN. St. John’s (6-2) battles Boston College at Barclays Center in the NABC Brooklyn Showcase at 4:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
