MBB Minute – After a loss at Providence on Tuesday, No. 6 Marquette evened its BIG EAST record with an 81-51 victory over Georgetown Friday night at Fiserv Forum. The Golden Eagles and Hoyas were the only two league teams in action.
After taking a 15-13 lead,
Marquette (10-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) broke the game open with a 26-6 run over the next seven minutes. David Joplin led MU with 20 points and nine rebounds. Tyler Kolek posted his sixth career double-double with 13 points and 10 assists. The Golden Eagles have won 18 straight at home. Jayden Epps led

Butler puts its seven-game winning streak on the line when it visits
Providence. Both squads are 10-2 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Bulldogs are riding their longest winning streak since early in the 2019-20 season. The Friars have won six of their last seven and have taken 45 of their last 48 home games.

Xavier hosts
Seton Hall at Cintas Center. The Musketeers (6-6, 0-1) are 9-1 in BIG EAST home openers with the only loss coming against the Pirates in 2018-19. The Hall is coming off a 75-60 win against No. 5 Connecticut. Xavier freshmen have accounted for 32.5 percent of playing time, the most for XU since 1995-96.

Villanova visits
DePaul. The Wildcats (8-4, 1-0) are coming off a 68-66 overtime win at Creighton on Wednesday while the Blue Demons (2-0, 0-0) are playing their BIG EAST opener. The Blue Demons beat the Wildcats 75-65 last year at Wintrust Arena which snapped a 22-game Villanova winning streak in the series.
FOX will telecast
UConn and
St. John’s from XL Center in Hartford at 8 p.m. St. John’s (8-3, 1-0) defeated Xavier 81-66 in its league opener, while UConn lost at Seton Hall. The Red Storm have won six of their last seven games and have not trailed in their last two. The Huskies (10-2, 0-1) are led by Tristen Newton who is first on the team in points (16.3), rebounds (6.8) and assists (5.6).
