UConn and Butler Claim Wins Tuesday Night

MBB Minute – On a six-game Tuesday evening, Connecticut secured a top-10 win at Madison Square Garden, while Butler earned a home win over Buffalo.
 
Behind a balanced scoring effort, No. 5 UConn took a 9-8 lead with 15:31 remaining in the opening half and never looked back in a, 87-76 triumph over No. 9 North Carolina at Madison Square Garden. Cam Spencer led the Huskies with 23 points and added seven rebounds and six assists. In addition, Alex Karaban contributed 18 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Tristen Newton (14 points) and Solomon Ball (13 points) also reached double-figures.
 
Butler improved to 7-2 with a 72-59 win over visiting Buffalo. Jalen Thomas and Jahmyl Telfort each scored 18 points. Thomas had 10 rebounds while Telfort grabbed nine and added eight assists and four steals. The Bulldogs led by as many as 24 points in the second half.
 
On a step back 3-pointer with three seconds left in overtime, Villanova lost 72-71 at Kansas State in a BIG EAST-Big 12 battle. Jordan Longino led five Wildcats (6-4) with 16 points. Justin Moore sprained his knee in the first half and did not return.
 
In another BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle, Providence lost 72-51 at No. 19 Oklahoma. The Friars grabbed a 40-39 lead with 15:21 remaining before being outscored 33-11 the rest of the way. Devin Carter led the Friars (7-2) with 17 points and five blocked shots.
 
In the third BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle of the night, Seton Hall fell 78-60 at Baylor. The Pirates (5-3) trailed 50-47 with 13 minutes left before Baylor pulled away. Kadary Richmond led the Pirates with 18 points, six assists and three steals.
 
Xaiver’s Quincy Oliver scored a season-high 34 points, but the Musketeers were hurt by an 18-6 run in the second half by Delaware and dropped an 87-80 decision at home. The Musketeers (4-5) had Desmond Claude add 14 points.
 
Three games are scheduled for Wednesday, including the conclusion of the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle with a top-15 matchup.
 
Returning to Fiserv Forum, No. 8 Marquette welcomes No. 12 Texas to its home court at 8 p.m. ET on FS1.
 
At 9 p.m. on the SEC Network, DePaul travels to face No. 21 Texas A&M. Meanwhile, St. John’s stays home to take on Sacred Heart at 7 p.m. on CBSSN at Carnesecca Arena.
