No. 8 Marquette Tops No. 12 Texas In Battle

MBB Minute – No. 8 Marquette delivered an 86-65 defeat to No. 12 Texas on Wednesday in the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle. St. John’s enjoyed a comfortable homecourt win while DePaul lost at Texas A&M.
 
Texas could not contain Tyler Kolek, who recorded 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the floor. The Golden Eagles (7-2) connected on 14 3-pointers and led by as many as 32 points in the second half. The victory is Marquette’s third this season over an AP-ranked team. Coach Shaka Smart is 16-9 against ranked teams while at Marquette.
 
St. John’s faced little resistance from Sacred Heart in an 85-50 victory at Carnesecca Arena. Joel Soriano posted his fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds. He played only 24 minutes. Jordan Dingle added 17 points. St. John’s has won 28 straight games against non-conference foes at Carnesecca, the second longest streak in school history.
 
DePaul fell behind early at Texas A&M in an 89-64 defeat. Chico Carter Jr. led the Blue Demons (1-7) with a game-high 21 points while making 7-of-9 from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
 
The BIG EAST schedule is dark until a nine-game Saturday that includes three games on FOX: Syracuse at Georgetown at 11:30 a.m. ET, UCLA at Villanova at Wells Fargo Center at 7 p.m. and Notre Dame at Marquette at 9 p.m.
