WBB Notes - 12.7 Update
Wednesday In #BIGEASTwbb
BIG EAST women’s basketball teams went 2-0 on Wednesday night, with No. 17/17 UConn defeating Ball State 90-63 and Providence knocking off rival Rhode Island 51-50. The Rams were coming off a win over then-No. 25 Princeton and had won the last two meetings with the Friars before Wednesday’s result. Providence improved to 4-5 on the year while the Huskies jumped to 5-3.
 
Nightly Notables
Aaliyah Edwards posted nightly highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds as the UConn senior forward notched her first double-double of the season. Edwards was 8-of-11 from the floor and added three steals, three assists and two blocks. The Huskies also got noteworthy contributions from rookies Ashlynn Shade (17 points) and Qadence Samuels (11 points). In Friartown, Olivia Olsen led PC in scoring for the fifth straight game and eighth time overall, tallying 14 points and seven rebounds. Marta Morales corralled a team-high nine boards in the win over the Rams.
 
Up Next
Two more games are on the calendar for Thursday as Butler and St. John’s look to extend their multi-game winning streaks. The Bulldogs host Vanderbilt at 7 p.m. ET in a game streaming on FloHoops, while the Red Storm travel to Fairfield at 7 p.m. (ESPN+). Butler is 6-2 and winners of three straight, most recently winning at Wisconsin on Sunday. St. John’s is 4-5 and has won back-to-back games, most recently at Marist last Saturday.
