MBB Minute: UConn Trio Sparks Win at DePaul

Four Games Set for Wednesday

MBB Minute – In the lone game on Tuesday, Connecticut, ranked 24th by Associated Press this week, rode the trio of Jordan Hawkins, Adama Sanogo and Tristen Newton to a 90-76 victory at DePaul.
 
Hawkins scored a game-high 26 points. Sanogo contributed 25 points and nine rebounds, and Tristen Newton netted 21 points. The Huskies (17-6, 6-6 BIG EAST) outscored the Blue Demons (9-14, 3-9 BE) 42-24 in the paint and won the rebounding battle 38-25. DePaul’s Javan Johnson scored a team-high 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
 
Wednesday’s schedule is highlighted by No. 17 Providence visiting No. 16 Xavier on FS1 at 6:30 p.m. ET. Both teams are 17-5 overall and in a three-way tie for first place at 9-2 in the league standings. Last season, PC won 65-62 at Cintas Center and 99-92 in triple overtime at home. Xavier announced on Tuesday that forward Zach Freemantle will be out for a few weeks with a foot injury.
 
Following PC-Xavier on FS1 is Villanova playing at Marquette at 8:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles are in the first-place tie with Providence and Xavier. They also are 17-5 and 9-2. The Wildcats welcomed Justin Moore back to their lineup in Sunday’s loss to Providence.
 
CBS Sports Network also has a BIG EAST twinbill. Creighton plays at Georgetown at 6:30 p.m. The Bluejays are in fourth place with a 7-3 BIG EAST mark and are 13-8 overall. They have won their last four games. The Hoyas won their last home game last week and lost by two points at St. John’s on Sunday.
 
Seton Hall makes the short trip to Carnesecca Arena to take on St. John’s for the 110th time. Tipoff is 8:30 p.m. The Pirates are aiming for their fourth straight road win. They’ve also taken six of their last eight games overall. The Johnnies had 20 offensive rebounds in Sunday’s victory against Georgetown.
