Siegrist Named #BIGEASTwbb Player of the Week

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Maddy Siegrist, Villanova, Sr., F
It was a record-breaking week for Siegrist who became the BIG EAST’s all-time leading scorer with a record 50 points on Saturday against Seton Hall. The senior forward shattered the single-game standard of 43 with 7:23 left in the fourth before becoming the BIG EAST’s career scoring leader with 5:55 left in the game. She capped the afternoon by reaching the 50-point mark with five minutes remaining. The previous BIG EAST single-game scoring record of 43 was first achieved by Louisville’s Angel McCoughtry on Jan. 31, 2009, against Providence, before Creighton’s Jaylyn Agnew matched the total on March 1, 2020, against Georgetown. Siegrist’s 50-point showing is the most by a Division I player, men’s or women’s, this season as the nation’s scoring leader bumped her overall average to 29.1 on the year, including 29.7 in BIG EAST play. Through 64 career BIG EAST games, she has 1,550 points, breaking Sarah Behn’s record of 1,546 totaled over 67 games at Boston College between 1989-93. Including Wednesday’s 27-point outing against Georgetown, Siegrist averaged 38.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and .630 shooting last week. Also of note, against the Pirates she did not commit a turnover in 32 minutes of action. This is her BIG EAST-record 16th Player of the Week honor of her career.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Kennedy Fauntleroy, Georgetown, Fr., G
Fauntleroy was the highest scoring freshman in the BIG EAST last week, averaging 17.5 points off 50-percent shooting against a pair of ranked opponents. At No. 15 Villanova on Wednesday, the rookie guard had 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. She followed that with a game-high 24 points and five steals against No. 4 UConn on Saturday. Fauntleroy shot over 70 percent (5-7) from three on the week, including a 4-of-5 mark against the Huskies.
