NEW YORK – Providence forward Bryce Hopkins has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and St. John’s guard AJ Storr has been tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Hopkins helped the Friars to a 2-0 week while Storr’s St. John’s team was 1-1. Both teams won a game in double overtime.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Bryce Hopkins, Providence, F, So. – Hopkins led the Friars to a 2-0 week after averaging 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. In the Friars' 94-86 double-overtime win over Creighton, he registered 20 points, nine rebounds and three assists. In an 85-72 victory over Villanova, Hopkins had 19 points, 12 boards and four steals. He also played all 90 minutes in the two games.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
AJ Storr, St. John’s, G, Fr. – Storr takes Freshman honors for the third time this season after averaging 11.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a 1-1 week. The freshman wing posted 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a 93-83 double-overtime win at DePaul. He had nine points and four boards in a 77-67 loss to Creighton.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Andre Jackson Jr., Connecticut, F, Jr. – Registered 15 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in a win against Seton Hall (64-55).
Ryan Nembhard, Creighton, G, So. – Averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals in a 1-1 week. Had 21 points and 10 rebounds in a double-OT loss at Providence (94-86).
Stevie Mitchell, Marquette, G, So. – Scored a career-high 17 points, made six steals and grabbed four rebounds in a victory over Xavier (69-68).
Dylan Addae-Wusu, St. John’s, G, Jr. – Averaged 15.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week. In a double-OT win at DePaul (93-83), had career highs of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Tied the game in regulation on a 3-pointer with 0.5 seconds left.
Tyrese Samuel, Seton Hall, F, Sr. – Averaged 15.5 points and 7.0 rebounds and shot 58 percent from the field in a 1-1 week. Had 15 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Georgetown (76-68).
