#BIGEASTwbb Minute: Tournament Seeding Takes Shape

BIG EAST Tournament Seeding Update
Following Friday night’s results, four more seeds were locked up for next week’s BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament presented by JEEP. No. 15 Villanova defeated Providence 67-50, locking RV Creighton, which did not play on Friday, into the No. 3 seed. The Friars’ loss, combined with Butler defeating Seton Hall 76-64, and Georgetown falling at St. John’s 61-53, solidified the lower third of the bracket: No. 8 seed Butler, No. 9 seed Georgetown and No. 10 seed Providence, while Xavier had previously locked up the No. 11 seed. The Bulldogs and Hoyas will face off in the First Round on March 3 at 11 a.m. ET, followed by the Friars against Seton Hall or DePaul, and closing out with Xavier against RV Marquette, St. John’s, Seton Hall or DePaul. The BIG EAST Tournament is set for March 3-6 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. For more information, visit BIGEAST.com/WBBT

What’s On The Line On Saturday
Two games are set for Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET, including a nationally televised tilt with No. 4 UConn facing DePaul on FOX. On the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloHoops, Xavier hosts RV Marquette. For the Huskies, they can clinch the No. 1 seed and at least a share of the regular-season title with a win over the Blue Demons; it would also lock Villanova, which doesn’t play again until Monday, into the No. 2 seed. A DePaul win would keep the Wildcats’ aspirations of a No. 1 seed and regular-season title alive, while giving the Blue Demons a shot at moving up to the No. 6 seed; a DePaul loss locks the Blue Demons into the No. 7 seed, setting up a First Round battle with 10th-seeded Providence. In Milwaukee, a Marquette win would clinch a First-Round bye as the Golden Eagles could be only the No. 4 or 5 seed; a Marquette loss locks St. John’s into the No. 4 seed and MU will have to wait until Monday to see if they’d be the No. 5 or 6.
