NEW YORK – Xavier forward Jack Nunge has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Connecticut forward Alex Karaban has earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors. Nunge led the Musketeers to wins against Providence and St. John’s, while Karaban help lift the Huskies to a win at Georgetown.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Jack Nunge, Xavier, F, Gr. – Nunge averaged 22.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in a pair of victories. In an 85-83 overtime win against Providence, the grad student posted game highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds. In a 96-71 triumph against St. John’s, Nunge had a game-high 21 points and six assists. For the season, he is averaging 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Alex Karaban, Connecticut, F, Fr. – Karaban made two 3-pointers in the final three minutes, the second coming with 27 seconds left, to help the Huskies win 68-62 at Georgetown. He finished the game with 11 points, four rebounds and four assists. In a 90-76 victory at DePaul, the forward contributed four points, five assists and four rebounds.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Adama Sanogo, Connecticut, F, Jr. – In wins at DePaul (90-76) and Georgetown (68-62), averaged 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds, while shooting 66.7 percent from the field.
Trey Alexander, Creighton, G, So. – Posted 27 points, three rebounds and two assists in a win over Villanova (66-61). In a 2-0 week, averaged 19.0 points, 4.0 boards and 3.5 steals.
Tyler Kolek, Marquette, G, Jr. – Averaged 16.5 points and 7.0 assists in a 2-0 week. Had 20 points, six assists and five rebounds in a win against Villanova (73-64).
Noah Locke, Providence, G, Gr. – Scored 22 points, which included making 6-of-7 from 3-point range, in an 85-83 overtime loss at Xavier.
Al-Amir Dawes, Seton Hall, G, Sr. – Averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 week. Scored a game-high 21 points in a win at St. John’s (84-72).
