UNCASVILLE, Conn. –
Aaliyah Edwards had 19 points and 15 rebounds and drew the defensive assignment of BIG EAST Player of the Year Maddy Siegrist to lead top-seeded UConn to the 67-56 victory over No. 2 seed Villanova in the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Tournament title game on Monday at Mohegan Sun Arena.
 
Dorka Juhasz had 16 points and eight rebounds, Lou Lopez Senechal finished with 14 points and Azzi Fudd had 11 for UConn (29-5). Siegrist had seven of her 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead Villanova (28-6). Lucy Olsen had 14 points for the Wildcats.
 
Edwards had back-to-back baskets and Juhasz followed with a three-point play to give UConn a seven-point lead late in the first quarter.
 
Villanova responded thanks to 3-pointers by Kaitlyn Orihel and Siegrist before Siegrist scored again to give the Wildcats their first lead of the game with 7:27 to play in the first half.
 
Edwards went to work again, scoring eight points as the Huskies ended the half on a 13-2 run to go up 10 at halftime.
 
Fudd had a pair of 3-pointers while Edwards and Juhasz had four points each during a 14-0 run in the third quarter that broke the game open.
 
It was UConn’s third straight BIG EAST Tournament title and 21st overall.
 
Edwards was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. She was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Juhasz, Lopez Senechal, Siegrist, DePaul's Aneesah Morrow and Seton Hall's Lauren Park-Lane.
