NEW YORK – With a first-place performance at the Main Line Invitational, Villanova junior Sadie Sigfstead has been named BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week for Cross Country. DePaul graduate student Jacob Holmes had earned BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week honors after his top-five performance at the Bradley Invitational.

Sadie Sigfstead, Villanova, Jr.
Sigfstead won the Main Line Invitational with a time of 16:00.5 over a 3-mile course, the fastest time that any Villanova runner has posted on the Haverford Course, beating the time of 16:03.0 by Caroline Alcorta in 2018. Sigfstead recorded her first individual win in cross country since being the Wildcats’ top finisher at the 2021 NCAA Championships. Villanova won the team title at the Main Line Invitational by sweeping the top four spots.

Holmes finished fifth at the Bradley Invitational with a time of 24:23.9 over 8K. His performance helped the Blue Demons take second place in the team standings.

National Polls – BIG EAST teams continue to be well represented in the USTFCCCA polls released on Sept. 19. In the men’s poll, Villanova remains at No. 12 and Butler is No. 19 with Georgetown receiving votes. In the women’s poll, Georgetown is 12
th and Providence stayed at No. 14.
The BIG EAST Cross Country Championships will be held October 28 at the Wayne E. Dannehal Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisc.
