BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Emma Grace, Xavier, R.S. So., OH/DS
Grace led Xavier to an impressive 2-0 BIG EAST weekend, including a straight set victory over Butler and five-set triumph over No. 11 Creighton, with 21 kills, 14 digs, seven services aces, and five total blocks. Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Bluejays marked the Musketeers first program victory over the perennial powerhouse as well as the highest ranked win in Xavier volleyball history. In the win, Grace contributed a team-best 15 kills and five aces in addition to two solo blocks and a block assist for a match-best 22.5 points. Against Butler, the sophomore logged six kills, two aces, and a pair of blocks.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Stevie Wolf, Xavier, Sr., L/DS
Wolf anchored Xavier’s defense over an impressive 2-0 BIG EAST opening weekend. The senior put up a team-best 16 digs in a straight set victory over Butler, also adding five assists and a pair of service aces. In a historic 3-2 victory over No. 11 Creighton, Wolf yet again led the Musketeers with 25 digs. The libero’s 41 total digs led the BIG EAST this week.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Rashanny Solano Smith, St. John’s, Fr., L/DS
Solano Smith contributed 28 digs (4.67/set) and eight assists as St. John’s started its BIG EAST campaign with a pair of straight-set victories. Versus UConn (W, 3-0), the rookie registered a match-best 14 digs. She repeated this performance against Providence, once again leading the contest with 14 digs. On the week, Solano Smith’s 4.67 digs per set were good for third in the conference and first among freshmen.
Honor Roll
Jilly Pressly, DePaul, Sr., OH
Pressly’s 39 kills (4.86/set) led the league this week. She paced DePaul to a 1-1 weekend, highlighted by a 3-2 victory over Villanova on Saturday, bolstering her 24 kills against the Hoyas with 25 digs and four blocks.
Hattie Bray, Marquette, Jr., MB
Bray registered 18 kills and a BIG EAST-best 12 blocks in Marquette sweeps of Villanova and Georgetown. She was the lone competitor this week to rank among the top ten in three separate categories including blocks (1
st, 2.00/set), hitting (8
th, .400), and kills (10
th, 3.00/set).
Aubrey Hamilton, Marquette, Sr., OH
Hamilton ranked second in hitting (.600) and third in kills (4.17/set) among BIG EAST competitors this week as the Golden Eagles defeated Villanova (W, 3-0) and Georgetown (W, 3-0).
Ludovica Zola, St., John’s, So., MB
Zola registered 17 kills on a conference-best .630 hitting percentage as the Red Storm began league play, 2-0. In wins over UConn (W, 3-0) and Providence (W, 3-0), Zola combined for eight blocks.
Anna Holland, Seton Hall, Jr., L
Holland totaled 26 digs (4.33/set) as Seton Hall enjoyed a 2-0 weekend. The junior’s 12 digs versus Providence (W, 3-0) were a match-best while her 14 digs against UConn (W, 3-0) led the Pirates.
