Liberty and Old Dominion Secure #BIGEASTfh Weekly Honors

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Bethany Dykema, Liberty, Grad., D (Newport, Va.)
Dykema was instrumental in then-No. 14 Liberty’s pair of victories this week over No. 6 Virginia (3-1 final) and American (1-0, shootout). On Tuesday at UVA, the fifth-year senior scored Liberty’s first two goals of the game and assisted on the Lady Flames’ third goal, while also making a defensive save in the outing. On Sunday against American, Dykema and the defense recorded a shutout of the Eagles in a 1-0 shootout win. Overall, Liberty’s triumph at UVA was the program’s first-ever over the Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Va. Through four games, Dykema shares the team lead in both goals (2) and assists (2).
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Azul Iritxity Irigoyen, Liberty, Sr., GK (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
Iritxity Irigoyen won both of her starts this past week and boasted a 0.43 goals-against-average, seven saves, a .875 save percentage and one shutout. In the 3-1 win over UVA, the senior netminder made five saves while surrendering only one goal late in the fourth quarter. On Sunday versus American, the goalkeeper kept the Eagles off the scoreboard for 80 minutes and stopped four of the Eagles’ five attempts in the shootout. On the year, Iritxity Irigoyen is 4-0 with a 0.46 goals-against average, 13 saves, a .867 save percentage and two shutouts. She currently leads the nation in GAA (0.46) and ranks third in save percentage (.867), as the Lady Flames now rank ninth as a team in the national polls.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Suus Broers, Old Dominion, Fr., GK (Utrecht, Netherlands)
Tested multiple times in her second collegiate weekend, Broers led Old Dominion’s defensive front with seven saves in 123 minutes of action. Against Central Michigan on Friday, Broers led the Monarchs to a 3-0 shutout victory. On Sunday, against then-No. 4 Michigan, she had a career-high seven saves, with the lone goal allowed coming three minutes into the first overtime.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Natalie McKenna, Fr., GK, UConn
Registered 13 saves in a pair of ranked contests against Rutgers and Harvard.
Lisa McNamara, Grad., D, Providence
McNamara notched the game-winning goal to help Providence defeat intrastate rival Bryant, 1-0, on Friday. McNamara played a key role in the Friars' defensive unit over the course of two shutout victories, as Providence allowed its opponents to combine for a total of six shots.
Asia Porter, Sr., GK, Providence
Porter registered back-to-back shut-out victories and made a quartet of saves against Bryant (1-0) and LIU (1-0) over the weekend. Overall, Porter now owns six shutouts in her collegiate career.
Nicole Fredericks, sr., D, Old Dominion
Fredericks anchored a back line that surrendered only one goal on the weekend, including holding Central Michigan to zero shots and zero corner attempts.
Meghan Mitchell, Sr., F, Villanova
Led the BIG EAST with two goals and three assists on the week, scoring nine points to lead the Wildcats past Longwood, 7-0, on Sunday.
