BIG EAST Honors MLK Day; Villanova Meets Marquette On FOX

MBB Minute – As part of the conference-wide efforts to support diversity, equity and inclusion, BIG EAST men’s and women’s basketball are using their platform to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by wearing shooting shirts donning one of Dr. King’s quotes from his famous “I Had a Dream” speech. The quote “The time is always right, to do what is right” is also the theme of a social media campaign that has been seen by following @BIGEAST on Twitter and Instagram this holiday weekend.

FOX will televise Villanova at No. 11 Marquette at 2:30 p.m. ET. Both teams are 11-5 overall. The Wildcats are 4-1 in BIG EAST play and have won five of their last six games. They are coming off a 94-69 home win over DePaul on Friday. The Golden Eagles are 2-3 in the league and have dropped their last two. The most recent loss being a 69-62 home defeat against Butler.

On Sunday, No. 4 UConn hosted Georgetown in the afternoon’s lone BIG EAST matchup. Alex Karaban (26 points) and Cam Spencer (20 points) combined for 46 points to lead the Huskies (15-2, 5-1 BIG EAST) to an 80-67 win. UConn tied its season-high with 13 made 3-pointers in the win and dished out 18 assists on 24 field goals.
