Seton Hall’s Richmond Repeats Player of the Week Honors; UConn’s Castle Earns Fourth Freshman of the Week

NEW YORK – For the second straight week, Seton Hall guard Kadary Richmond has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and for the fourth time this season, Connecticut guard Stephon Castle has been tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Both players sparked their teams to 2-0 weeks.
 
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Kadary Richmond, Seton Hall, G, Sr. – Richmond directed the Pirates to a pair of road wins by averaging 22.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists in a 74-70 win at Georgetown and a 78-72 victory at Butler. He shot 54.8 percent from the field and made all 15 of his free throws. Against Butler, the senior posted 24 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and five steals.    
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Stephon Castle, UConn, G, Fr. – Castle averaged 13.0 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds in two Husky wins. In an 80-75 victory at Xavier, the freshman registered 12 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
 
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Jalen Thomas, Butler, C, Gr. – Averaged 12.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and shot 59 percent from the floor in a 1-1 week. Had 10 points and 14 rebounds in a win at Marquette (82-75).
 
Alex Karaban, UConn, F, So. – Averaged 20.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Made 9-of-13 from 3-point range. Tied his career high with 26 points in a win over Georgetown (80-67).
 
Ryan Kalkbrenner, Creighton, C, Sr. – Averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocked shots in a 2-0 week while shooting 61.9 percent from the floor. He had 20 points, 9.0 rebounds and four blocks in a win at DePaul (84-58).
 
Eric Dixon, Villanova, C, R-Jr. – Had a game-high 24 points, six rebounds and three steals in a win against DePaul (94-69). Made 9-of-13 from the floor.
 
Desmond Claude, Xavier, G, So. – Averaged 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week. Scored 21 points in a win at Providence (85-65).
