BIG EAST Player of the Week
Liza Karlen, Marquette, Sr., F
Karlen was the BIG EAST’s top scorer last week, leading the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 mark with wins at Seton Hall and at home against DePaul. The senior averaged 24.5 points and 6.0 rebounds, shooting a blazing .760 clip from the floor – the second-best field goal percentage in the BIG EAST last week. Karlen had the weekly game high of 30 points in Tuesday’s victory at Seton Hall, going 11-of-16 from the field while grabbing six boards. Against the Blue Demons on Saturday, she added 19 points off 8-of-9 shooting and six rebounds. This is Karlen’s third BIG EAST Player of the Week nod of the season.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Ashlynn Shade, Connecticut, Fr., G
Shade claims her fourth BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor of the season after averaging 15.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals in wins over Providence and St. John’s. The rookie shot .571 from the field and 50-percent from three in the wins. Against Providence on Wednesday, Shade tallied 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals. She followed that with 13 points, three rebounds and three assists at St. John’s. Shade’s scoring average not only led all BIG EAST freshmen last week but listed seventh among all league players. Her 3.0 threes made per game was the second-best mark. The Huskies have now claimed nine out of the possible 10 BIG EAST Freshman of the Week awards.

Azana Baines, Seton Hall, Grad., G/F – 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.0 steals in a 1-1 week; 14 points, eight boards in win at Xavier
