Home Teams Take All Four On Saturday

Xavier Plays At No. 1 UConn On Sunday

MBB Minute – Emotions were high in Providence, double overtime was played at Butler and two teams upped their games in the second half en route to victories. When the day was done, home teams were 4-0, all before sellout crowds.
 
Providence was facing former coach Ed Cooley and Georgetown for the first time. The Friars (14-6, 5-4 BIG EAST) lost a 12-point lead in the second half before Devin Carter scored seven straight points late in the game, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:53 left. Providence prevailed 84-76. Carter finished with 29 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. Jayden Epps led the Hoyas (8-12, 1-8) with 26 points and six assists.
  
In an 88-81 double-OT win at Hinkle Fieldhouse over Villanova, Butler did not own a lead until the first minute of the first extra period. DJ Davis led the Bulldogs (14-7, 5-5) with 28 points, all coming after halftime. Jahmyl Telfort notched his first career double-double with 22 points and 11 boards. Eric Dixon scored 28 points for the Wildcats (11-9, 4-5), who had four-point leads in both overtimes.
 
Marquette got it rolling after intermission in a 75-57 win against visiting Seton Hall. The Golden Eagles (15-5, 6-3) opened the second half with a 10-2 run to take control. Oso Ighodaro and David Joplin provided the scoring punch with 21 and 20 points, respectively. The Pirates (13-8, 6-4) played their second straight game without injured guard Kadary Richmond. The Hall’s Jaden Bediako finished with a season-high 18 points and eight rebounds.
 
Creighton (16-5, 7-3) led DePaul 40-37 at halftime before surging to an 85-62 victory at CHI Health Center. Seventy-eight of the 85 points came from Trey Alexander (23), Ryan Kalkbrenner (22), Steven Ashworth (17) and Baylor Scheierman (16). Kalkbrenner and Scheierman each had 10 rebounds. Elijah Fisher led the Blue Demons (3-17, 0-9) with 12 points. 
 
Sunday’s lone game is No. 1 Connecticut hosting Xavier in Hartford at noon ET on FS1. The Huskies (17-2, 7-1) won the first meeting 80-75 on Jan. 3. The Musketeers (10-9, 4-4) took both games last season.
