NEW YORK – Creighton guard Trey Alexander has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Connecticut guard Stephon Castle had been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Alexander earns the honor for a second time this season while Castle is honored for the fifth time.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Trey Alexander, Creighton, G, Sr. – Alexander helped Creighton to a 2-0 week by averaging 25.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists. He posted a season-high 27 points to go along with nine boards and four assists in an 85-78 win over Xavier. In an 85-62 victory against DePaul, the Bluejay guard registered 23 points, seven assists and four rebounds.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Stephon Castle, UConn, G, Fr. – Castle takes Freshman honors for the fifth time this season. In the only UConn game of the week, a 99-56 win over Xavier, the 6-5 guard finished with 12 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
DJ Davis, Butler, G, Sr. – In a 2-0 week, scored 28 points – all after halftime -- in a double OT win over Villanova (88-81). Averaged 22.5 points and shot 40 percent from 3-point range that included a win at Georgetown (90-66).
Donovan Clingan, UConn, C, So. – Registered 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots in a win against Xavier (99-56).
Oso Ighodaro, Marquette, F, Sr. – Averaged 20.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and shot 64.3 percent from the field in a 2-0 week that included wins at DePaul (86-73) and at home against Seton Hall (75-57).
Devin Carter, Providence, G, Jr. – Had 29 points, including 11 in the final two minutes, in a victory over Georgetown (84-76). Averaged 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals in a 2-0 week that included at win at Seton Hall (67-63).
Joel Soriano, St. John’s, C, Gr. – Posted 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor and nine rebounds in a victory against Villanova (70-50).
