Four out of five games on Wednesday in BIG EAST women’s basketball were decided by single digits and it all started with a thriller in Friartown. Providence claimed its first win over DePaul since 2012 while improving to 2-0 in BIG EAST play for the first time since 1999-2000 with a 72-65 victory over the Blue Demons. St. John’s took the torch from there, stunning No. 19/20 Marquette, 57-56, in Queens for the Red Storm’s fourth win in their last five games. Georgetown won for the 10th time in its last 11 games, edging Butler in Indianapolis 60-55, while Villanova held on to win at Seton Hall, 50-45. In the sold-out top-25 showdown in Omaha, No. 12/15 Connecticut ran away from No. 21/21 Creighton, 94-50, for the Huskies’ seventh straight win.
 
St. John's 57, 19/20 Marquette 56  
In a game which featured 14 ties and seven lead changes, St. John’s erased an eight-point third-quarter deficit to upset 19th-ranked Marquette on Wednesday night at Carnesecca Arena. Unique Drake totaled 24 points to lift St. John's (8-7, 2-1 BIG EAST), including the final nine points for the Red Storm, highlighted by a game-winning step-back jumper with 1:21 to play. Marquette (12-2, 1-2) shot 50 percent from the field but committed a season-high 23 turnovers. Frannie Hottinger led three Golden Eagles in double figures with 15 points, going 6-of-7 from the field.

Georgetown 60, Butler 55  
Georgetown shot nearly 47 percent from the field and committed just nine turnovers to score a five-point win at Butler on Wednesday night. Graceann Bennett had 20 points and eight rebounds to lead the Hoyas (12-2, 2-1), who improved to a BIG EAST-best 8-0 on the road this season. The Bulldogs (8-5, 0-2) were led by Rachel Kent’s game-high 22 points, as the graduate student went 5-of-8 from three. Tied with 96 seconds left, Bennett and Kelsey Ransom scored the game’s final five points to give GU the win.

12/15 UConn 94, 21/21 Creighton 50  
The Huskies scored their second straight top-25 win over a BIG EAST opponent Wednesday night in Omaha, led by Paige Bueckers’ game-high 24 points and Aaliyah Edwards’ fourth straight double-double of 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. UConn (11-3, 3-0) shot .533 from the field while holding Creighton (10-3, 1-2) to a .250 clip, including a 4-of-24 mark from three. Emma Ronsiek had 13 points for the Bluejays.

Providence 72, DePaul 65  
The Friars snapped a 23-game winless streak against the Blue Demons with a 72-65 midday win at Alumni Hall. Providence (8-7, 2-0) improved to 2-0 in BIG EAST play for the first time since 1999-2000 after shooting a season-high .587, including a season-best .583 from three. Olivia Olsen led four Friars in double figures with 19 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field and grabbing eight boards. DePaul’s Katlyn Gilbert scored a game-best 25 points while tallying a game-high seven steals. The Blue Demons (9-7, 1-2) forced 25 turnovers, the sixth time this season they’ve forced 20+ miscues.

Villanova 50, -/RV Seton Hall 45  
The Wildcats closed the first half on an 8-2 run to take the lead into the locker room which they held the rest of the way, despite the host Pirates’ attempts. Both teams struggled from the field, shooting below 30 percent, with The Hall’s Azana Baines finishing with a game-high 21 points. Villanova’s Kaitlyn Orihel led three Wildcats in double figures with 13 points, while Christina Dalce had a game-best 12 rebounds. Villanova (9-5, 2-1) has now won three in a row, holding back-to-back opponents to 45 points. Seton Hall moves to 9-5, 1-2 on the year.
